Mini Tasks - thumb studs

I have two Mini Tasks, one has the "Blur" angled thumb stud, the other has a normal post style. They are both 1500ST models.

The one with the post thumb stud has a black pivot pin and clip.

The one with the angled stud has a stainless pivot pin and clip.

Which one came first, and which one is more rare?

I'm not certain about the thumb stud, but IIRC the first ones out had flush mounted clip screws (countersunk into the clip). I'd have to dig em outta the safe to check the studs...

Move some bodies out of the way and let me know :)

Luckily the one I have with the flush mounted screws is in really good shape, and the one with the regular thumb stud, black hardware, and exposed screws has some use, so I wont hesitate to EDC it.

I might give it to my Dad for Xmas. The last mint condition knife I gave him was a really expensive Bark River (spits bad taste out) w/ mosaics....it got used to cut plastic for insulation in his garage "because it fit my hand well" and is no longer minty. So giving him a Mini Task that already has some use on it wont make me cry the next time I see it :)

My Mini Task is a later model, I think. The earlier ones came in the corrugated box that opens to the side and had the flush screws for the clip and a laser etched logo on the blade. The later ones look like mine.

What a nice son, giving your dad nice knives as gifts. At least he uses them. My dad was intimidated by the Spyderco Pacific Salt I gave him (the serrations). I'll be surprised if he uses it.

My Dad made me a successful adult. I owe him more than I can afford to repay. He has a Tag Hauer or Rolex with a black face (he collects watches, I dont have enough money to get in that)...Im thinking a Mini Task would be a fitting companion.

Even more interesting PG5768, is that yours looks just like the one I have where the clip and pivot are in black trim (solid stud, exposed clip screws).

I guess there were variations there as well?

Ditto (except for the watch thing). The Mini Task is perfect for EDC, plus being a beautiful little knife. The Speedsafe action is very nice.

You're right, the clips and pivots must have varied. I thought the earlier bead blasted clips were titanium. Mine is stainless, but looks like the titanium ones on my Random Tasks.
