Hi folks!

Two questions: What is your suggestion for a mini-tool? I can't decide for one. The micra? M4? Buck mini-tool? SOG? Or are they not tough enough at all??

And i need some suggestions for small fixed blade. I have almost decided to order the BM Nimravus Cub in M2, but then i thought it would be interesting getting your opinions first. Are there are some other models in this quality and price range?
It should not be much longer than 8 inches.

I cannot help you with the minitool question but what do you need your fixed blade for? Tactical, utility, both?

For everyday use I use my folders (right now Kershaw Whirlwind) and the only fixed blade that I use is Boker Specialist - bacause of its excellent MCS system.

Multi Tools, In my opinion, the Leatherman Micra is not really a multi tool, it is more of a pair of folding scissors. It could be useful in the right situation, but I don't think it deserves the pocket real estate it takes. There are lots of Micra fans here so this will get an argument

Buck mini tool is if anything less useful than the Micra. It is fairly nicely made but it is a toy, and usability is low. My Buck Mini lives on my extra set of car keys, The ones that I never carry.

If you want a mini tool that approaches usability look at the Swiss Tec Micro plier and or their Utilikey, I carry both on my primary key ring, and have been able to convince myself that they are potentially useful.

David1967, i would want the fixed blade for utility and tactical use.
Not a every day carry (impossible to carry a fixed blade in a sheath in the office

)
but as a weekend/outdoor carry.

For mini-tools, I like the SOG Cross-Grip or Cross-Cut (depending on what tasks you have), and Leatherman Micra. The micra and cross-cut are great little pocket scissors, for when a knife is not your best option. As far as the other "tools" on them, I really don't use them that much.

Jester,

I carry mine every day in the office and nobody even noticed it. Sometimes the sheath is even more important than the blade itself. One more thing: how huch do you want to spend?

If I were you I wouldn't get one of the mini keychain sized tools. they're too small and not made very heavily. Instead I would look at the mid sized multi tools. leatherman used to make, and maybe still does make a small version of the original leatherman. It was about 3x2" closed and a lot more useful and stronger than a micra. Gerber has one in that size range too. You can see it at www.gerberblades.com . I know a lot of people talk down on gerbers, but I carry one of the 600 series and its great. Its really solid too, I bet the smaller version would be made just as well.

Ummm... I'm carrying a NCub in M2, in its sheath, right now, sitting in my office. There are about 6 other people sitting in various cubicles, 2 others in the same cubicle with me. None of them know that I have it, much less have it on my person right now. Fixed blades MIGHT be illegal right here and now, for all I know. Point is, no one knows, and no one needs to know, unless I need to use it. And at that point, probably no one will care if I have it. It is not my main/only carry knife. For mundane stuff, I have 3 others available, folders in various sizes. The folders are handy. The NCub is there for my satisfaction. It does get used, and almost as much as the folders, at all times of the day. I am just careful when I use it. Is it extra trouble? Not in my opinion. Is it worth having? You BETCHA! Especially in M2!!

GET IT, YOU'LL LOVE IT!
