I saw this arrive at TAD the other day and had to give it a try, the mini UMS

I've been wanting another small auto to use as EDC, and this one might just fit the bill. At just over 5 1/2" total length when open, it is probably way to small for most of you, but It fits my definition of a "pocket Knife" quite nicely, and the carry clip makes it that much easier to keep it out of the way.

I chose a satin plain blade just like the lower one, and was pleased to see it come with a clip that is satin finished as well, not as shiny as the reflected one shown here.

My only complaint thus far would be the recessed "grippy" insert. I know it preserves the look of it's big brother, but it is too "grippy" for me, and unneccessary on a little knife like this, IMO.

This is a minor gripe, though, and will do nothing to deter me from falling in love with this little beauty.

The action is fast, and the sound on opening is very satisfying.

Until the day I gather the balls to finally buy one of Microtech's OTF auto's, this one should serve nicely. Heck, all I really do with them anyway is open packages :p

If anyone is looking for a small auto that costs no more than a Benjamin, I'd highly recommend one of these.

Have a great weekend everyone!

These look nice, but I always wondered why they didn't shrink it just a tad more to squeeze under the 2" California auto market.

It is a bit small but I like mine a lot. I got the olive green one. While more of a finger knife than a hand knife it still impresses me. Probably the best gents knife around IMO. Too bad it is illegal to carry here where I live or it would certainly be one of my EDC knives.

The blade is so thin and so sharp that it slices like a small paring knife in the kitchen. When I have carried it around my own property it is unnoticed in the pocket. The other thing I like about it is that though it is around the same length as the Protech Stinger it is much less prone to jumping out of your hand if you open it with a rather loose grip. The spring is not super strong but strong enough to do the job unlike the Stinger which I find almost bothersome to open at times.

just makes it that much more usable for me.

Illegal? oh well, it must be illegal for me as well, since I live in the same area as you do, STR.

so, what is your EDC?

I still don't understand why something as benign as a pocket knife that opens by itself could be illegal???

Then again, I also have trouble understanding why bottle rockets are illegal as 6.0 beer here, too???

As long as we don't let little laws like that bother us too much, everything should be just fine.

By the next fourth of july, I plan to drink out of state beer, shoot plenty of bottle rockets, and hopefully have a UTS 6 clipped neatly to my pocket ;)

I was thinking the same thing when I heard of this knife.
