Mini-Vulcan vs. Visionary 1

I have the Mini Vulcan (and Vulcan). I have not messed with the Visionary 1. I really like the Mini Vulcan. The biggest difference is the handle and I suspect the Mini is more grippy. I keep threatening to remove the clip, but never get around to it. I'm not a clip person.

I don't have either of the minis, but I have the full size. Personally, I like the Visionary better. I believe it carries narrower than the Vulcan, is a tad lighter (.4 oz., so it's not alot), & I like the blade shape better.

Good luck with whatever you pick.

i was in a similar situation. i was choosing between the vulcan(full size) and visionary II, but since i had a black coated flash II tanto (which i had for 2-3 years and lost) i thought id pick the shinny one for a change. when i first received the Vulcan, i loved it and hated it. i really like it's handle, and the shape of the blade, but i dont really dig it's shinny blade. now, after using the vulcan for few months, im thinking to buy a Visionary II. if the vulcan came in a black finish i wouldnt even think about buying another blade

Both knives have the arc-lock and a good blade.
But I prefer both the edge geometry and the handle of the Visionary. The Vulcan by contrast was immediately uncomfortable when I picked it up, and I couldn`t see myself using it for any length of time.

Rats..I just orderd a Vulcan :p although I did recieve a Spec Elite1 last week.
The Elite is a great knife, similar in style to the Visionary, the Vulcan as I expect wil be a nice change up,for those rainy days, I hope.. :D

I have the full size Vulcan which I EDC. It is a wonderfully ergonomic knife, very comfortable for heavy duty cutting. The blade is a real work of art. By the way, the vg10 is very easy to sharpen and it holds an edge well. The high hollow grind makes up for the thickness of the blade, It still has a good geometry for slicing.

i really enjoy the vulcans. the visionary is definitely a good knife, probably a little more grippy of a handle. if you ask me, it all comes down to what blade profile you like better.

I have a mini vulcan and i love it! The blade is beautiful and out of the box one of the sharpest i've used. It is a little thicker to carry than i thought it would be. Haven't handled a visionary.

I have both.
I like the blade size and shape of the Vulcan best.
I like the size and feel of the Visionary best.
"If" I could ONLY have one, it would be the Visionary, without a doubt!!
The thing I DO NOT LIKE about the Visionary is when the blade is closed, the blade edge is resting on the hard piece of plastic (or whatever it is) inside the knife. It works great for rolling an edge or dulling the edge.
Just a bit of thought on the design would have prevented that from happening.
As it is- the Vulcan is "too fat" and the grips cheap feeling,
The Visionary rolls the blade edge and dulls it by design, so...,
I do not carry either.
I sure wish it was engineered correctly, I would really like the Visionary "if" the "dulling feature" was not built in.

If you can find one, pick up a Night Vision.
If you like plain edge knives, you have to look real hard, all production N-V's were 1/2 & 1/2.
I know of 6 N-V, PE knives made and super rare.

Good luck...

I have the larger Visionary II and the blade does not contact the plastic spacer at all, not even close. The knife is one of three (Vulcan, Visionary II, Spec Elite I) that I rotate for my edc. Out of the three the Visionary II is the best slicer and as an added bonus it looks the coolest with the black coating and the more pronounced curves on the spine of the blade.

I thought there was an older thread about the backspacer problem - if I remember correctly, this was an issue on the first runs of the Visionarys, not 100% sure though. I've been using the Visionary 1 for a few months now and have been very happy with it -no issues so far and it's still the sharpest knife I own. I do like the mini vulcan, but the Visionary is more pleasing to my eye.

You are correct, that is the problem with my knife, however, I have since fixed it.

I agree, the Visionary looks better to me too:)
On paper, the Vulcan looks nicer, but in the hand, it is the Visionary...
