I just got back from my local dealer with a brand new Mini-Vulcan.

:thumbup::thumbup:

I love this knife. It's a great size for a small-medium size edc folder. The standard Vulcan was just a bit too big for my edc needs/tastes. The only downside I've found is that the flipper is a little too small and I haven't mastered being able to open it solely with the flipper (no wrist flick). With practice, I think this can be overcome. :)

I just wanted to add that the mini doesn't appear to have the problem with the blade tip that the standard version had.

Great knife SOG! Now, I'm going to have to wait for the Stingray 2.0. That looks like it's gong to be one sweet knife.

Does it have assisted opening? I'd like to get one but if it has assisted opening, I may have trouble getting it into the country

You don't need an assisted opening with the Arc lock. Between the Arc lock and the flipper, you're good to go. Opens smooth and easy. Still practicing on getting lockup using just the flipper. Getting closer. :)

Thanks guys, I remembered someone saying the Vulcan came with assisted opening, I thought it didn't sound right

Its sort of a gravity assisted knife.

A simple gentle push on the back stud of the blade while closed will swing open the blade easily with the help of gravity.

Here are some (bad) pictures. :o

With all of my SOG Arc lock knives:

The bottom in knife is indeed a Tomcat 3.0. It's one solid knife. They're coming out with a version with carbon fiber scales. I'm going to be all over that one.

The blade is thinner on the mini. I don't have any good way to measure them, but you can get an idea by looking at the flippers in the back side photo.

Looks like I'll be getting a bunch of carbon fiber from SOG this year. The 3 other knives that are still on my list are the carbon fiber Arcitech, carbon fiber Tomcat 3 and the carbon fiber Stingray 2.

I'm a sucker for carbon fiber, what can I say.

Is the blade thickness the same as the Vulcan?

Thinking of getting the carbon fibre one too but I dont see any pocket clip:(
