Well the Mini Vulcan arrived last week and I have to say I'm liking it very much right now. The VG 10 blade came wicked sharp out of the box and the heft feels really good. Will be wearing it all week to work so I'll see how it does with various tasks, mainly how well it holds up to cutting .010 brass wire most of the week.

Every time I see that knife I think about how great it would be with G-10 ...

I hope the rolling eyes means you realized that the blade is VG10. If not, BTW The blade is VG10. ;)

Got to handle one at a local shop a few weeks ago. They sure are nice. Wish I could afford one, but no job so no toys for now.

I would venture a guess swimmerdude is referring to the handle...G-10 instead of Zytel.

Indeed I was referecing G-10, which is glass cloth with epoxy resin used to bond the cloth together. I would really like to see SOG use this in many more of their models in lieu of Zytel, while keeping them at a decent price point (which, in my opinion, they are now).

VG-10 is decent stuff ;)

LOL!!! Don't I feel silly. :o Goes to show I should eat before posting. LOL!!

The knife I carry the most right now is a Spyderco Centrefante with a VG-10 blade and FRM (Zytel?) handle. I see nothing wrong with Zytel and simmaler materials when done right. Though my Kershaw folder with G-10 handle slabs isn't shabby. ;)

My stimulus payment was deposited into my account this morning. Might have to swing by the Cutlery Corner and see if they have a Mini Vulcan..

I picked one up today at the Blade Show. I love this knife!! It is definitely EDC material! Thanks Chris you feed my impulse buying habits.

My local tool dealer had a few of these and I decided to pick one up myself. The quality is outstanding and the blade is made of exceptional quality Japanese steel. I carried a Schrade LB8 for many years and this knife is light and well balanced in comparison. Easy one hand operation is what I like about the Vulcan. For the $$ spent well worth it.

The Mini-Vulcan is now my regular EDC. That is saying something to push out my good old SAK. I have never really seriously thought of a knife as a self defense tool, but the Minii-Vulcan is such an animal but it is big enough and comfortable to handle heavy duty use whether it be camping, hiking, cutting branches, field dressing a deer, around the house or farm chores, or use around the job site. The knife is extremely heavy duty and well built and the blade opens with a slight flick of the writst. Snap; it's open. It is far faster than anything that I have tried made by Spyderco and I like their blades. It is the kind of knife I want a spare and that's saying something as I don't buy spares normally.

Can anyone tell me if it SOG is using brass washers on the Mini? The full sized Vulcan has some sort of plastic/nylon bushing washers.

Well I've been wearing it on and off since it arrived and I couldn't be more pleased with how well it's made. I've used it for numerous tasks from cutting .010 brass wire, boxes, heavy plastic banding, .005 ss shim stock. The blade still feels new from the box and is still sharp as hell. I would highly recommend this knife to anyone looking for a great VG10 EDC knife.

PSXTrader, I'll take a look under a scope at work today and let you know.
