Is their a sweet spot or the whole edge hardened

This question has been asked before on the forum. I believe the answer is that all HI swords (including the Wajaski) are hardened along their full length. However, if anybody disagrees or has more definite information, please add it to this thread.

That is my understanding as well but in reality if you look at the hamon on a used blade then you can tell they are definitely concentrating on the "sweet" spot but that spot is not as localized as on a Khukri. I see hardening nearly the full length of the blade but that may vary depending on Kami as well. In other words six inches from the tip of the blade is probably harder than six inches from the handle.

Actually it would probably make sense to not harden the edge of a sword near the guard. In a duel that would be the part of the blade most likely to catch another blade. Also, if you hit someone with the edge six inches from the guard you are probably doing something wrong.

I suppose someone will report on an exotic swordplay technique that involves striking an opponent near the guard. That's what we're here for -- to learn new and useful things.
