The Mini X-Ray Vision has a lot of features that I really like:
Low-carry clip for discreet carry and can be flipped for left-handed use; tip-up
Nice blade steel (ATS-34)
Arc-lock - excellent lock design
Perfect size - 3" blade / 4" handle is the EDC size for me
NO assisted opening - I am not a fan of assisted opening
Affordable price

For me, the Mini with a different blade shape would be the perfect SOG folder. While I like the Mini X-Ray better than some other folders I have with American tanto blade shapes, I have found that I am not really a fan of tantos. I prefer a more traditional drop point for general utility, and I also like wharncliffs. I don't know of any SOGs with a wharncliff blade - maybe this is the place to start? I think the Mini X-ray is a great knife and would love to see it with other blade styles, even something like the Flash or Spec-Elite blade, but a wharncliff would be something different. What do other fans of the Mini think? The Flash has been made with multiple blade shapes - how about the Mini X-Ray?

Big fan of the mini xray here. While I was under the same thought as you when I first got it, I actually got used to the half serration / tanto blade. The tanto is very useful when opening boxes, and the serration is good in case I have to cut through a seat belt. I like the Xrays blade because of it's uniqueness, and the grip is very comfortable too. The Mini xray is the only knife I carry daily, and I plan on buying 2 more of the same one (just in case.) I find alot of the uniqueness and quality of the knife being in the blade design.

One quick story about the xray.

Me and my girl stayed in the mountains this memorial day weekend. We put some cans of Mountain Dew in the mini-fridge. We heard an explosion that night, like a loud bang. She asked me "What was that?" Being asleep, I said "It wasn't me." LOL! The next morning we found the mountain dew cans were frozen and had popped. She said "how are we going to get this frozen stuff out?" Before I knew it, I had my X-Ray whipped open and I was cutting the cans in half. We dropped the frozen 'dew' down the drain and threw away the cans. I wiped the blade off, good as new. :D

Thanks for sharing that story, RenegadeRows. That sounds like a nice cutting test for your Mini X-Ray!

I will continue to use mine and will keep an open mind about the tanto. I have no complaints about the serrations - I like serrated blades and the serrations on my Mini are pretty nice.

I still think that the Mini X-Ray is a great design and would make a nice platform for new SOG knives with different blade shapes. At the very least, I would like to see more 3"blade/4"handle Arc-lock knives - the Spec-Elite and Pentagon-Elite are just a bit too big for me to EDC.
