Hello group,
Bought my first SOG, by mail order, last month a Mini X42 AutoClip plain edge. What a beautiful blade! I was a bit skeptical about the AutoClip idea but have become quite comfortable with it, should keep the knife secure in my pocket. One concern however, when folded closed the handle does not completely guard the point. I'm a lefty so the SOG is in my left pocket and the edge of my hand is taking some damage, mostly when I go to town and am fishing for coins in my pocket, or standing with my hands in my pockets which apparently from the cuts on my hand I do a lot in town.
My proposed solution is this, by hand with abrasive papers on a flat surface work the shorter (3/4") leading part of the blade back down a few thou to lower the point, this making it safe when it rests in the closed position. I plan to start at 100 grit for stock removal then work up to 1200 grit for finishing.
I think this will work, but I have never done anything with BG-42 steel, so I would appreciate any comments on my plan and working with this steel.
thanks,
