I posted a message last week asking for advice on a small motor...
This is why:

I've made a minigun for my 8 year old son (and for me!)
. I made the barrels out of PVC and wood, and the main body out of wood. Had an old joystick laying around unused which is the firing handle. I knew it would be too heavy for my son, so we grabbed the sholderstrap off the non-working weedeater.
It's done as far as "show", but now the real fun begins... I'd like to make it so the barrels spin when he depresses one of the joystick buttons. The center barrel of the gun goes all the way to the back end of the body. I was going to mount a cordless drill inside (with a cutout to replace the battery pack), and use a vacuum cleaner belt around the barrel to turn. Got out a Granger catalog at work and found out I can get ballbearing assemblies; that should help with the friction. They also have motors and motor mounts, but I'm not sure about battery-operated. I'm concerned that the cheapest cordless drills won't have the torque needed to turn the barrels. They won't have to spin at real minigun speeds, but the quicker the better.
One thing I did was to drill a hole in the main body behind the top barrel... When I add a light (hopefully run off the same motor), the top barrel will 'flash' as if a bullet had come out! My son was worried about the police seeing him while he was playing with it in the front yard (I told him most 8 year old's DON'T have play-min-guns, so he'd be safe, but he was still leery, so we got some PVC caps to paint orange and put on the ends of the barrels.
We still need to attach the shoulder strap, but I'd just got it painted (it'll need another coat or two), but I was too excited and had to share. Next, were going to work on a backpack (for the ammo) and a belt to connect the two. My son's already decided that we need to make a 'flamethrower" next. (I'll need chemical help with that one, as I'd like it to shoot completely hamrless white smoke when were done(don't post on that now, as that's a couple weeks/months in the future))
