Anyone have this CRKT version of Folts' Minimalist?
The steel is 5Cr13MoV...how's that compare to AUS-8, or 8Cr13MoV - as used on the Tenacious?
I'd get one right away, except I've been disappointed with CRKT's 3Cr13 and AUS-4/-6.
Does the 5Cr13 hold an edge better than the 3Cr13?

Mine seems to hold an edge pretty well. This thing ain't made foe choppin 2x4's so I am sure it will preform all the little tasks fine

Thanks, Socom.
My experience with CRKT's 3Cr13 (Neck Peck) was that just inserting it into it's
GF-plastic sheath rolled the edge...bummer !

Is the 5Cr13MoV comparable to 420, or 12C26 ?

Anyone else have the CRKT Minimalist !!??

I believe that 3cr13 is comparable to 420J stainless.

5cr13MoV should be a bit better steel.

Usually that first number is the Carbon content. 3=.3% C. 5=>.5% C. 8=.8% C etc. The second number after the Cr is the % of Chrome. 13=13% Cr. 15= 15% Cr etc. The low Carbon steels .3-.5% have the least edge holding ability. The medium Carbon steels .6-.8% have the medium edge holding ability. The high Carbon steels .9-1.2% have the best edge holding ability. The above is true for Carbon steels which have had a proper heat treat. Other carbide formers such as Chrome, Manganese, and Vanadium can also influence wear resistance. The 13% Chrome steel is the cutoff point between stainless and nonstainless steels. The higher Chrome steels aren't rustproof, but they require less maintenance.

Got one, love it, carry it regularly. I've used it (light use of course, 'cause it is for that) semi regularly, and the edge is still sharp as ever.

How does the CRKT Minimalist compare to the Buck Smidget or Buck Harsook?

I have the Cabela's version of the Harsook (different name, but the same knife w/ better steel). I like them both. The Buck is a slight bit thicker, so I useit for stuff a LITTLE heavier, but the Minimalist is much more comfortable in the hand, so easier to use.

The minimalist has much better ergos with a far superior sheath.
+1
