Hazard an opinion on how many knives you need
smile.gif
. Once I thought a SAK was enough...then I got a tough folder...then a large quality folder and a multitool etc etc. I reckon I could get by with a worker and a custom but wouldn't mind a fixed blade...ummm...

27...28....29???

Seriously, how many do I NEED? In today's modern consumer world who NEEDs a knife?

OK, really seriously, a SAK, a mini-dyad, a lightweight folder, a heavyweight folder and a shirt pocket knife. I'd probably need backups to all these in case I lose one, so I'm thinking the absolute minimum would have to be 10. Oh, and a rescue knife in the truck, so that's 11.

And to think I used to just carry one!

Seems to me that all I need is one more than I have at the moment in time that I see one I like or a deal I like or have the need to buy something..... Oh the horror of it all

When the perfect, do all for everyone, knife is made, just one. Til then...all of them, I need all of them...I want all of them...where's my medicine...did I say I need all the knives?

How many knives do you need,.... it depends on how many pockets that you have...or sometimes how DEEP they are!

I think it's important to always be on the lookout for that "Oh Yeah...that one is the only knife I'll ever need" knife!! So far I've found it....... about a dozen times!

Good Day,

Forget need.

Nobody needs anything. We choose to live, to love, to eat, to sleep, to ..... buy knives.

So,

Choose to buy the knives you like, while choosing to be wise about it.

Is this a trick question?

How many knives does Cold Steel make? (That's how many I NEED!.

Lets see.... Multitool, SAK in pocket and SAK in hunting duds, heavy duty folder with a backup, light duty fixed blade for hunting, heavy duty fixed blade for hunting and camping, politically correct folder for airports and social gatherings (geez), kabar or similar for the truck, kabar or similar for the atv, machete for the atv then you multiply that x2 for the significant other and add in respectable blades for any children. Did I hit 100 yet?

It's simple, you always need one more :-).

Let's see....one for each pocket, one for each drawer, enough to fill my safe, the trunk of my car, my desk at work, my wife's purse, my kid's closet
wink.gif
and so on....
Now all that is going to take some time and "ALOT" of knives.

How many do I need? How many are they making? I thought the silly question was in another thread.

You're not serious, right?

Really, we *need* air, shelter, water, fire, and food. (Clothing falls under the shelter category!) But in order to produce some of those things in certain surroundings, a knife (or knives - as the case may be) consitutes another 'necessity'.

To answer your question, IMHO, I would *need* three fixed blades (one large - around 9" to 12" blade; one medium - around 5" to 6" blade; one small - around 2 1/2" to 3 1/2" blade), and a Swiss Tool. However, three folders would be near-needs: My Military (mainly for food prep), my Wegner (mainly for skinning and other 'dirtier' chores), and my Calypso Jr. Ltwt. (for my few 'Sunday-go-to-meetin'' excursions where I may encounter many of that dreaded species: 'sheeple'
wink.gif
). Of course I'd also *need* some sharpening stones, a few gallons of Marine Tuf-glide, a few gallons of mineral spirits, to keep he wares in good working order.

And, given a *need* scenario, I'd also need a good woman to keep me company (I've got the best already!), and a fast computer with internet connection to keep in touch with y'all and all these great topics!

Well, honestly speaking, I would probably only need my small Sebby for the rest of my life. But as i have realized, needing a knife and wanting lots of knives are two different things....

Besides, we have to work hard keep the knifemakers/knife companies in business by buying every knife lest we be left with only Franklin Mint knives to buy

Just had a thought. Codeman was partially right. When that do-all-things-perfectly-in-every-situation knife comes out, we'll need TWO

.... at least

Till then, I'll need one for slicing, one for dicing, one for chopping, one for hacking... and that's just for the vegetables.
