Minimum Paracord length for BOB?

In conjunction with my Izula, an RC-4 and an RC-5, I would like to add a hank of Paracord. We have all the short length's but would like to add more. How much is too much? I doubt a person can have too much ideally, so the question would be, what is the consensus on the ideal length for a small B.O.B.?

Thanks folks!

For my GHB I carry 100'.
I dont like keeping everything together, so there are two 25' hanks stored in seperate pouches and a 50' hank in the main compartment.

how longs a piece of string????? as long as you want it to be!!!!:D there is no minimum, whatever you feel like packing, I usually pack 25ft..........

I keep 100 feet of black in most bags, or green. and tan for a few depending which bag I use and where I am going. But for all I have 25 feet in orange. I keep mine shrink wrapped, keeps it all neat and compressed and packed. Should carry a solid 100 or break it up into more manageable lengths, why? Cause simply put, it doesn't weigh much. Buy a pack which is usually 100 feet from what I've seen, and just hold it, you'll see what I mean.

IMO more is better for this case, but beware of cheap cord, I bought a few from random surplus shops around here not to long ago and stress testing some, the really cheap cord BREAKS/SNAPs easily at around 100 pounds or so, at 25 foot length, the usa ones, I've tried hold up to 300+ I got lazy with weights, and seeing if it'd hold and gave up. But thats good, because, means it will probably take a whole lot more, stronger is better, and I really am trying to only buy US made stuff, if I can help it.

I only keep about 30 feet of paracord on me at all times. Lanyards, bracelets, just plain wrapping them. There are so many methods of keeping large amounts of paracord.

I keep a 100' hank in all of my BOB's, wrapped up and stored. Then another 25' piece that's on the top and ready to use. That way should I need a few feet here and there I don't need to chop up 100' worth to get to it. It also depends on the size of bag your packing, like either a backpack or a smaller day bag or case.

2x 50 feet each paradonutified :D

the pic is blur but you get the idea, impossible to tangle that way

Great help! Looks as 25' is about the average, up to 100'.

Love the Paradonut DocBurN. Very interesting storage method. Is it difficult to tie, even more important, is it easy to untie?

That's another good question is how is it stored by most?

In a mini kit, a min of 25 feet, in a pack, a min of 50 feet but preferably closer to 100 feet.

I keep 100 ft. Paracord is one of the more handy items I like to play with, so there is usually an extra 10-20ft chunk for just playing with ;)

I have 100' of blaze orange and about 50' of something else in my gearslinger.... that something else is I think navy right now... or I might change it up to 25' of tan and 25' of OD green... we'll see :D

I keep a hundred foot hank in my truck kit.

I don't always carry that much when I am hiking/camping. I carry enough to string a shelter and then some - maybe 35-50 feet.

Don't measure it out at all. Just grab whatever length it comes in for the package and toss two in your BOB (one is none and two is one). I think that 100ft is pretty much the standard package of the stuff. It's light, easy to stuff into a corner or seam area, and works great with any of the typical survival/work knots worth mentioning.

I'm not sure how DocBurN is wrapping his, but this is my method. It's a slow process to wrap, but unties very quickly.

I think I learned from the same video. Takes a while to do, but it does stay neat and tidy. very easy to untie, just pull on the end.

I buy it in 300' spools. I generaly carry at least one 30' hank on me. When in the woods I carry at least 3 hanks.

its pretty much the same technique but the guy in that video wrap it way to tight.. take him longer to tie it tight and need more pulling to untied it .. you can hear the sound of the cord when he's untieing..

I do it a lil less tight.. and its still tight enough to stay tied if I drop the donut while holding the cord but take way less time to wrap it.. weird at first, it tie itself without looking after a while.. good for when you are preping days before the expedition.. like told in the video, less usefull if you need to tie-untie many times the same cordage.

Picked that up from the survivalistboards forum a while back (PDF is there with explication but not sure if you need to be a member of the forum to see it)
