After seeing the post about the NC Knife Knuts brunch I got to wondering if anything like this goes on in MN. Or, if not, anybody interested? I know there are a few of us here: MikeO, Jon Peters, saulcohen, John Johnson,...etc. Thanks.

I would encourage anyone who can to get together on a regular basis with other knife knuts. The NC gang gets together about 10 times a year at gun and knife shows in Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and Greensboro. We also meet at the Southeastern Custom Knife Show in September, and stay at the same hotel at the Blade Show. We never fail to have a great time together.

I'm from Minnesota also, but my area of studies in blades is probably to a different degree than the "norm." Also I don't really have any knives collected to show off...

Hey guys, this is off to a good start! Thanks for the encouragement, Kelly. Let's see who else shows up and then we'll get the ball rolling. Robert- ask anyone that knows me, I'm more than a few degrees away from "norm". Arrow- there's no e-mail address at your profile. Contact me at home if you want.

Richard sounds like a great idea, count me in, If you look real hard you can find Holdingford on a large map.

Outside of a dog, a Knife is man's best friend. Inside a dog it is very, very Dark.

I'm originally from Coon Rapids, (right next to Blaine) but live north of Duluth now. I'm down in the cities all the time, so there or Duluth is good with me. Richard, do you ever get down to the Twin Cities or were you thinking about Duluth?

Jim

p.s. There is a great knife shop in the Mall of America that would make a cool field trip. What about putting the invite out to people in the five state area. I know Chiro 75 lives in Davenport, IA and we have quite a few cheese heads on the forum. If it was geared around the Mall of America, some of the married folk would have an easier time getting away and could even plan a mini-vacation around it. I for one have been reading about Jay Maines for quite a while now and would jump at the chance to see some of his work in person. If you get a chance, buy this month's Tactical Knives and Jeff Randall does a review of his work. Just try not to drool over that skinner of his. I go through Wyoming all the time on my way to the Cities and I always threaten my wife that I'm going to look him up. I could even bring my TOPS Steel Eagle that Cliff Stamp gave me and show you guys what a knife that's been through the Stampinator looks like. Anyway, my p.s. is about three times as long as my original message so I'm going to shut up now.

Jim, I was hoping you'd show up. I have a feeling the Twin Cities would be best, but any suggestions are very welcome. I'd like to keep this near the top for a while longer and see what develops, and then do some serious planning. Excellent idea about the cheeseheads, flatlanders, etc.

the more the merrier. And the chances of me making a trip without my family are right around zero Thanks.

In all seriousness though, it is a very excellent idea, no matter where your location is in this country. There's alot of smaller area knife clubs that are out there, and some just desparately need members to keep them going. Is anyone a member of the North Star Blade Collectors here? I've kept on meaning to join in the time that I lived here, but gave up on the idea after awhile just due to time constraints. What about having a get together at the time of one of the Weapons Collector's shows in the Twin Cities?

Take care,
John Johnson

John- you're not moving to Georgia just to be closer to the Blade show are you? Sorry you won't be here, thanks for the encouragement. I'm not familiar with either the weapons show or the North Star Blade collectors. Sounds like another good reason to get together- exchange info AND drool over other folks knives.

Mike O,

I've never been to that show. What does it entail? Is it geared toward period pieces or do they also have current stuff?I'm a gun guy too so that sounds like it could be an interesting show. The one in Blaine looks like it would give people plenty of time to prepare. And since we have 2 members in Blaine already, everyone could stay at their houses...Just kidding guys.I have plenty of friends and relatics in the area.Just wanted to give your heart a start.
As you said Richard, it probably would be best to have it in the Cities. But who knows, if we get a lot of interest, maybe next year we could force them all to drive up here.Since Duluth is "The Air Conditioned City" maybe they would all like to get away from the heat for a while.
How about if we get some stats on everyone. That will also help to keep the topic current.I'm 33, married, and have two kids ages 1 and 3.I'm interested in all types of knives but my main interests are "user type" wilderness and tactical blades. As far as anyone's knife interests not fitting in, I would PREFER a diverse crowd. That's the only way to learn.

Jim

p.s. Mike O- I went to college in St. Cloud so I don't have to look on a map to find Holdingford.

Well guys I don't know much about either of the groups. Maybe someone else here can help out. Last January I went to my first show at the Minneapolis convention centre on a whim(to me it was a large show) I think it may have been put on by the Min. Weapons Collectors Assn. not sure. Lots of knives and guns of all varieties. .
As far as North Star Blade Collectors I sent in my $15. Haven't been to a meeting but have been getting their newsletter. Looks like they have about 100 members. They meet in Bloomington once a month. Usually on a knife theme from the want ads seems to be a lot interest in antique folders. But I really don't know .

I got to throw in that St Cloud is in the middle of the state :-) for the September MWCA show in case anyone wants to get together there. But I am willing to travel for knives!
Jim, glad to see you got out of St Cloud to visit Holdi.... no you said you knew where Holdingford was a big difference.
I agree diversity is good, I find my focus in what I am interested in as far as knives go has changed a huge amount in the last 8 months.
An example being a friend I hadn't seen for a few months was over today and wondered why I had so many buck 110's that were all the same. I explained some differences between # of dots and what kind of spacers etc. he still walked away shaking his head.
Personally I'm into folders, damascus anything, Bucks, Microtechs,C Reeves and.....
