Minor Dilemma - PM2 or Milie?

Hi guys, I need your help making a decision. My first experience with Spydies was a PM2 I purchased new about a month ago. I loved it. I added a custom deep carry clip and was even more in love.

Last week, my neighbor asked me to sharpen his work knife. I said sure! What he handed me was the biggest pile of crap I've ever seen. It was a DU branded "Sarge" knife with a freaking gut hook. Oh, and the liner lock barely engaged about 50% of the time, and the slightest pressure on top of the blade would make it close. The other 50% of the time the blade would not lock at all. It was scary to think how close he was to actually losing a finger. Anyway, I adjusted the pivot and sharpened it up for him, but I just didn't feel right knowing that he was relying on that knife 24/7.

So I gave him my PM2. I figured he needed it more than I did at the time, and I secretly hoped I could create another knifeknut.

Now, I'm just not sure what to do. I purchased a ZT that fills my needs with the 3.5" blade length (very close to the PM2's length), so I'm leaning towards trying a Military since it has a 4" blade. But I also miss the PM2 quite a bit.

So, what would you suggest? Replace my PM2 with another one or mix it up w/ the Milie since I have a "hard use" folder w/ 3.5" blade already? I'll probably eventually get both, but I can only get one right now and it might be a while before I can get the other.

Thanks and I'm looking forward to your thoughts!

I would go with the PM 2. I don't like that the Military is tip down carry only. I would have one or more if I could carry tip up.

PM2 is my personal preference. It's easier (and more fun) to deploy than the Millie, and more pocket friendly. The Millie is much more knife than I need for just about everything. That said, I still really like the Millie, too (just not for EDC role). Good luck!

Thanks for the input. Guess I'll pick up another PM2!

I keep thinking I'm missing something by not having a Military yet, but I suppose it can wait a little longer.

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say Millie. My PM2 was my favorite knife until I got a Millie. Something about it just feels right in the hand. It does seem large at first glance, but after a few days using it doesn't feel that way anymore. Also, I carry my PM2 tip up, but surprisingly tip down on the Millie hasn't bothered me at all.

I had the same dilemma so I boug both. At first, I didn't like the para, carried the Millie. Now the plain Jane para I didn't like is in my pocket 95% of the time. It's my EDC. Get both

WAIT i have a pm2 and would way rather use my Millie. PM2 os great knife but the choke choile just uses to much blade space. I'm a tall skinny guy 6'3'' 170 and largeish hands and PM3 fits ok but the millie is way more comfortable. and yes it is only right hand tip down but i love that. its large bought that tip down works and ill bet your handed. and being only way means there is not holes drilled all over the dam thing. it looks and is big, while also accomplishing being classy.
i have 4 millie two TI and two G10. i got one PM2 the i complain bout how small it is and that it wants to play big boys but isn't.

Awesome story... A co-worker turned me into a knife nut after seeing what I was carrying and giving me his knife that day. I think most guys who carry a knife every day but are not necessarily "knife guys" can be turned into knife nuts if someone just introduces them to a knife like the PM2. To answer your question, I'd definitely choose the PM2 just because I like the lock. Doesn't mean it's a better knife, just my preference!

I'd say Military over the PM2 as long as you are ok to carry a 4 inch blade. The pivot allows you to adjust side-to-side play out of the knife and the liner lock is easier to manipulate one handed.

Out of work (And sometimes at work) I prefer the PM2, but if it's cold and I'm wearing gloves (Or if I know that I'll be wearing gloves most of the day) I'll take the Millie. Both are excellent knives for me to use at work, but the Millie is easier to use when wearing gloves, and the extra edge can be nice if you work construction. I prefer the lock on the PM2 when not wearing gloves, and I definitely prefer the clip options of the PM2, but overall I prefer the Millie at work. I could be biased because CruWear is such a good all around steel for what I use a knife for at work (204P is also awesome but I prefer CruWear at work...and we really need a CruWear PM2). Also, I find the PM2 to carry better in jeans, but if you're wearing coveralls or work pants that have a dedicated knife pocket on the side you may find the Millie to be a better option. Either way though, they're both quite similar and very sturdy and lightweight knives that won't let you down when you need them.

This for me. The pm2 is really a more refined, updated, and better EDC than the millie.

But there is just something that draws me to the millie time and time again. It may be larger then what you would normally require for edc tasks, but when you do need that little extra length. It sure comes in handy.

Get both. And since you already know what the PM2 is like, start with the Milie. I pull out the Military for any job that I don't want to have to stop and think, 'Will this hurt my knife?' I know the PM2 is just as tough, but it's a peace of mind thing for me. I carry both regularly. PM2 for standard EDC tasks, Milie for everything else.

Going to have to agree with everything in this post. Tip down just works on this knife and I carry everything else tip up. I've tried it and don't care to pull this knife out tip up then have to work my way up the handle to get to the thumb hole.

Thanks again for all of the great input! I'm going to go with the Milie. I've already experienced the PM2, and I've got pretty large hands so I'm anxious to try it out. I'll come back and pick up another PM2 down the road.

Thanks for pushing me over the edge on this one!

Let us know how you like it. I would love a Military sized PM.

I have big paws, and I like titanium, so I prefer the Military. I just let go of my last PM2, but still have my Ti Militaries.

I just got a Ti millie after EDC'ing a standard millie for some time. Wow, the Ti millie is pretty much my dream folder. It just oozes quality.

Funny thing about it though, weighing as much as it does, when I go back and carry one of my regular Millie's after having the Ti for a week or so, I am once again I am blown away at the lightness and the amount of knife Spyderco is able to pack into such a slim and light package.

Let us know what you think of the Millie. Something the millie does what no other blade seems to be able to do is appeal to my "manly" and outdoorsy nature while still being a thing of aesthetically sleek and simplistic beauty.
