Are the 193 and the 194 Alpha hunters essentially(sp?) the same knife??

I picked up the display model 194 with Elk stab handles and ATS-34 steel at Bass Pro(last one they had) today for $89.99 ---was originally marked at $129.99.

Anyway--I get it home and the sheath is marked 193---it fits well enough---but I'm wondering if a true 194 sheath would have a better fit-----so I'm just fretting over a minor detail.

So do the 193 gut hook and the 194 non-hook have the same overall profile?

Windex Multi-task did a good job of removing the the retail sticker goo---BTW

You might find the same thing with the Vanguards. Different numbers , same sheaths, same profiles.

Might see if those are still listed on Bucks Website. Will give you a better picture.

Good Grab on the 194!!!!

I have a beef about this sheath, and others like it from Buck...

The snap is on the wrong side of the sheath...for quick one-handed use, it should be a thumb-break snap, with the hand in position to draw the knife...IOW, on the other side of the snap flap...

I have to wonder if Buck didn't adopt this style just to be "different"... :grumpy:

I think the snap is on that side of the sheath to prevent it from snagging on branches while in the woods. It would make for a bad day to lose a knife. I do however have a complaint also with my vanguard sheath. It too is lose and is marked with a differant model number. It is marked with the zipper #.

I have a favorite thumb-break holster for my Colt Gov't model; I wear it while clearing brush on my "south 40" (varmints); I haven't lost it yet...or even have it snap open...(lots of foxes hereabouts lately; no idea why...but some have been found with rabies)...

Maybe it's a patented feature of some other sheath maker???

The snap-flap on my 119 and 120 is also too high up; the knife will slip upwards while jogging, or when I'm partially upside down, such as when climbing...

"Jogging" with a 119 or 120.
I need to add that to my disclaimer text!

Having said that, I agree with your observations regarding the leather fixed blade Buck sheaths Trax. They snap is high and on the wrong side for quick extraction. Though I can see KY's point, but I'm in the 'hood, not the woods.

Maybe it's the one nod to left handed users like me? The snaps are in a perfect place when trying to draw with your left hand :)

Small world GD526. Yep been here in Beardstown IL for about 4 1/2 years. Rushville thats even smaller then here. Good to meet you. These folks on here are great. They have answered alot of questions.

I actually like the snap on that side of the sheath. It seems to work for me and I'm right handed. Just my opinion. Now if you will all excuse me I'm going to grab my 119 and go jogging.:D

Too funny!! Personally, I like the old style, full flap leather sheaths for the fixed blades, lot harder to loose the knife. I'd like to see those offered as an option.
