Minor Rust on Stockman

A few days ago I stuck each blade of my Case Stockman (cv steel) in a strawberry. The outcome was barely satisfactory, so I filled up a plastic container with lime juice and did the same thing with each blade, which seemed to do nothing. The patina was splotchy, but after some more use it's began to even out. What's worrying me a little, is around the tang of the middle blade, there is a little bit of brownish rust. Is this normal? Throughout the blades there are a few brown specks here and there as well. Should I not worry about this? Also, after taking the blade out from the juice I ran it under the sink and lightly dried it off. Could this be the reason there is minor rust?

There's likely some of the acid left on the blade, from the fruit juice. The tricky part of forcing a patina with acid is, you need to be sure to completely clean the acid from the blade afterwards. Otherwise, the acid will just keep eating away at the steel. If the rust is still light, you might try some WD-40 and some scrubbing (maybe with #0000 steel wool), to take it off. Another option, would be to use some metal polish (like Simichrome or Flitz) to polish the rusted areas. That'll remove the light rust, and it will also remove the 'patina' left by the fruit. If you're not satisfied with the look of the patina afterwards, completely polishing the blade will remove it. You can then take a 2nd try at it, if you wish. Just make sure to completely clean the knife afterwards (dish soap & hot water, then completely dry everything).

i wouldn't worry about it. my cv knives get specks of surface rust just from sitting in the box. i just lightly scrub it with steel wool and add some oil.

Try the tip of a pencil, thr graphite won't scratch the blades. Don't use the eraser it will scratch the blades. Don't forget to oil after each cleaning.
