Minor snail trail removal??

I know it's inevitable on a user, but it's much too soon for a snail trail on my new CRK. :P Is there any home brewed way to remove very faint rub marks on the blasted Ti?

Nope. The first one is the scariest. Once you realize they are inevitable and keep using the knife, you will see it looks amazing with them on there. It is like you are personally creating a 'patina' on your titanium.

I am sure some people will pics of their used Sebbies. CRK can blast them to look new again, but it will be just as quick to get marked up.

Enjoy your knife. :)

You can live with them, re-blast, stonewash or scotchbrite. I would recommend live with them. I like them. Never did a stonewash, but have done the scotchbrite and found it to be too slippery for my taste.. If you re-blast you will soon be back in the same situation.

Words of wisdom :-) I think you guys are right, I bought it as an edc knife and marks are going to happen. Like biggerjon said, it's the first one that's scary!

Use it and enjoy it. Every scuff or scratch on your sebenza is an adventure you were on with your sebenza.

Get a pocket sheath to prevent unnecessary marks on the knife.

I just got my sm box elder Sebenza today and got a little mark on it, must have rubbed on something in my pocket. Definitely too soon as its only been a few hours that I've had it. Its my first and definitely a user, so no biggie.

Ive never done it on a CRK since this is my first, but I have done it to a sage 2 and sage 4, along with other Ti and SS; you can use very fine steel wool on Titanium/ss and it will make it just like new. I do that after a while when I want to freshen the Ti/ss up.

EDIT: I was just thinking, my method would probably only work on the polished or brushed finishes, not the blasted finish

Bead blasting it will get rid of the snail trails and give it a much more resistant finish. A lot of people confuse CRK's finish as being bead blasted but the media they use is much more aggressive than glass beads.

They use regular filter playground sand. I called CRK about a year ago. I have reproduced there finish at a about 60 psi at 4 inches out of my cabinet, with fresh sand.

But in all reality, don't sweat it. I can blast mine to factory finish but never have. They do look better with some wear. Most people only get it refinished when they want to sell. Enjoy it!

Slide that girl across the concrete a couple good times. That'll fix it. Well it'll fix you lol. I had the same problem. That first one was painful. But now, my large tanto looks like it's been through a tumbler full of gravel. Its so scratched it looks almost uniformly scratched if that makes sense.

High end knives look good two ways.

Pristine, or ravaged.

If its all pretty with one or two scratched, it just looks like you tried to baby it, but did a bad job ;)

Personally,I think sebenza looks better all roughed up.

That's how a user should look.

First one is hard to get over and is understandable with a $400 knife. There does come a point where you get over it and just enjoy it.

What you have to ask yourself is that is it worth it to be without your knife for possibly 2 months and risk of loss in the mail to go through the phase of worrying about that first mark again which will happen in the first week you have it back.

From what I understand a snail trail develops when material fills the porose surface of the blasted Ti-scales.
So you have to remove the material that got into these pores; reblasting the handle can lead to the same result.
A scratch is a different thing.
hope this helps.

Enjoy it how it is. In 75 years when someone else owns it, it will probably be all marked up anyways.

I'm so excited! I got my first snail trails. I can't wait for many many more to come!

I'm starting to get them all over my (two month old) tanto Umnumzaan. They don't bother me at all....embrace it man! I am pretty particular about cosmetic crap, but the knife came to me factory perfect...and the marks are mine from using this great knife. The first one certainly caught my attention...but I don't think about them anymore.
