Miracle of nature … Lightning Strikes Twice

With the recent heavy storms that rolled through the northeast this weekend, I was fortunate enough to an uncommon occurrence … lightning striking twice … Barry H style.

Ok, I know that was cheesy but the scales are impressive. Unfortunately, the pics don’t pick up the reflectiveness of the copper and perceived ‘depth’. It's interesting how some LSCF pieces are uniform throughout (large sebenza) and others show a bit of randomness (small sebenza).

Obligatory pics below:

Looks excellent - very nice you have the set. Thanks for sharing!:thumbup:

Look fantastic!
I have a large CF born this year, but it came with non-perforated washers. Is that the norm for the CF version?

Congrats on the CRK CF sebenza! The regular small & large sebenzas were sent to Barry H for his custom LSCF scales. I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I have yet to disassemble my sebenzas but I believe the regulars came with non-perforated washers.

Hi, thank you for the reply. I actually like the look of your scales better than my scales. I wish I could score a older version of the Sebenza with that scale configuration. I can tell that my washers are not perforated without taking it apart. You can look in while turning the blade and see.

Thanks for posting! And I'm glad you like the way the scales turned out. Indeed, LSCF is tough to photograph. A camera's lens can not capture what the human eye can see.

Before I send your knives back, I took a couple. Here's my favorite.

The reason both scales look dissimilar, is because both scales came from a different sheet of LSCF. On the large sized Sebenza, my stock thickness is .150" whereas the small came from a sheet that is .130" thick.

Thanks for sharing additional pics, Barry. Your photos do a better job showing the 'depth' of the LSCF, almost holographic.

They look awesome! Thanks for the pics!

I also am starting to dig the swedge on the small regulars. Been thinking about sending my small regular BG42 in for a swedge, and believe I'll go ahead and do it.

edit- Well, no swedge for me,lol. When i left it with Anne at Blade last year for a refurb I asked her to also add a swedge, but then backed out.
I should have had it done then dangit, because i was just told by CRK they will no longer put a swedge on a knife.

I feel your pain ... I picked up the large regular sebenza after CRK's spa treatment on the small regular. It turned out to be a few months too late and no more swedge.

ParkinNJ,

Excellent choice of handle materials. Barry, very nice work. I have not seen LSCF in either 0.130 or 0.150, just 0.125

Thanks, Jeff. I go to great lengths to find the "real" LSCF. Some of the vendors out there selling it, are actually selling LSCF knock offs, at inflated rates. It has a lot of voids. I do my research before I dive into something.
