Within the last year, give or take, the market has been flooded with new inovative lock styles. I remember drooling the first time I saw BM's Axis Lock. I believe the Axis to be the catalyst for many other companies following suit. All in all, what are your favorite new locks, and why. Which locks do you feel are on a slippery slope? My personal new favorite is the Ultra Lock on the Recon 1 series by CS. My personal peeve is thin liner locks that fail with the slightest of pressure. For some reason I have encountered my fair share of these lately, even on customs. Thanks :D

We've done this thread many times and the answer remains the same: the strongest folding knife lock is the balisong.

There are many great locking systems out there right now. I really like the Compression Lock from Spyderco. It is strong and easy to use as are many of the other new locks. The Plunge Lock from MOD, the Mattlock from William Henry and the Ultra Lock from CS are all great. The Benchmade Axis Lock and R.E.K.A.T. Rolling Lock are still as good they come in my opinion.

I have not had any trouble with any of my knives that have liner locks. The only thing that happens is that with one of these knives I occasionally catch the skin of my thumb when closing the lock. None have ever let go on me, but then I don't use them as hard as some others might.

Strongest of them all? How about a fixed blade.

Balisongs, Bolt-Actions, Plunge-locks, Axis-locks, Rolling locks, Arc-locks, Ultra-locks, Frame-locks, Bladelocks, Linerlocks, Backlocks........Goldielocks! :D

So many locking mechanisms out there, it's a tough choice. I still like linerlocks, especially when they're well made. In my opinion, linerlocks will still be around for some time.

What is the ultra-lock? From photos, it looks like an infringement on the axis-lock. I remember CS used to have some folders with a splined blade tang that you could open like using a lighter, I think those were also called ultralocks.

You're right. Cold Steel did have some folders called Ultralocks in the past. I too wonder why they chose the name of a previous folder for their locking mechanism.

The liner lock as implemented on the Strider AR and GB models - those knives are not going to fold unless you want them to. The shear size of the liner makes most frame locks look VERY small.

Ed

The REKAT rolling-lock seems to be pretty tough, as I haven't been able to break any of mine yet.:).

Frame Locks seem to be very good. I have an MPF1 and the frame lock on it is super strong and locks nice and tight.
