Mirror Polish an existing factory blade?

Excuse me, but what's that white bar compound, and where can one get these?

As to buffer, would a power buffer that's used to buff cars, do the job? Edge facing away, of course...

I don't think a car buffing machine would work. I use an old 1/2 hp bench grinder with a buffing wheel. The "white bar" is white grease-based rouge available from Jantz, Texas Knifemakers Supply, and many other places. Maybe some other kind of rouge works better, but this is what I used. Patience is an important ingredient. Plan to spend an hour or two on it if you want a nice even shine.

Another tip... watch your fingers when doing this. A sharp knife can easily catch on the wheel.

Take care.

What I used intill I got a real buffer. Was just a drill. You can get buffing pads at most hardware store, you can use one or better yet glue a two or three together with stiff cardboard on all sids of the buffing wheels. Just make sure it is a little smaller around.

Then either put drill in vice or work in vice and buff away
