Hey guys looking for advice on putting a mirror polish on a 440c steel blade. I'll be sanding by hand using 200grit sandpaper up to 2500grit. My question, is there a certain technique i need to follow. Should I sand length wise, up and down, alternating, or does it really not matter. Im sort of clueless but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

For the first grits up to 600 I'd sand in back and forth straight lines. For 600 plus sand in one direction. Down is what I'd recommend.

to get done fast and make it look good every grit you need to alternate horizontal to vertical strokes, I reccomend you finish on a buffing wheel

Put 9 micron diamond paste onto a buffing wheel, and it will give you mirror polish in no time.
