mirror polish

Just wondering the best method for applying a mirror polish any info appreciated!

Do you mean entire blade or only cutting edge?
Many here will use a strop with compounds.
I personally use just high grit water stones.
 
The best way?
Is usually with a buffing wheel and rouge, but it is also the most dangerous as you have to be very careful you don't catch an edge and have the knife ripped from your hands and thrown at you. Acceptable results can also be obtained with progressively finer grits of sandpaper until a polish is achieved, but it will take lots of elbow grease. This also must be done with some care so you don't cut yourself while sanding.
 
This is my KLVUK done with nothing but sandpaper and like Karda said "lots of elbow grease". Most important of all is make sure you clean up each time you switch to the next grit or you will never get the expected results. I layed the knife down on a flat surface with a clean cotton cloth (old t-shirt) underneath and sanded off edge. Each stroke I came off the knife edge i rubbed the sand paper clean on the cloth underneath in the same stroke. Change the cloth and wipe the knife clean each time you change grit and you can get some very nice results. All you need is a foam sanding block, sandpaper, and a bunch of soft cotton rags. With the right technique it can be done.

wow im impressed thanks for the advice guys im gonna give the elbow grease method a shot ill let you know how i go.

One more note kukrifan: Depending on how smooth the surface is you may be able to start off with a finer grit like 400 or 600. If you see any stubborn scratches afterwards then you can back up to 220 grit for spot touchup. You can save some elbow grease that way.

Got me to wondering if some of Bookie's clear mouth wash might help in this effort? Might be good for a forced patina better.

If I ever score any I might have to give it a try.
