Hi All,

I'm not a true knifemaker, more of a hobbyist. I wonder if someone can give me insight in how to achieve a true mirror polish? I come close, but just don't quite get to the final awe inspiring mirror finish I am striving for.

Thanks,
Dave

I like leather hones with appropriate-grit polishing media. I use a smooth leather strop with 10,000-grit media for final edge polish.

www.handamerican.com can supply everything you might need.

Hope this helps!

How far have you gone grit-wise in finishing your blades? A hand rubbed finish up to 2000 grit and I can fix my hair in front of the knife....

May be wrong but I think the mistake some make is not completly sanding out all the "micro-scratches" before moving to the next grit. This may be caused by not using a hard, flat sanding block so the blade is not perfectly flat...if the blade is perfectly flat and you get all the little micro-scratches out the light should only reflect one way causing a mirror like finish.
