Mis-marked SOCFK

I just traded for a SOCFK, Tanto, BTS. I received it Monday, and the first thing I noticed was the blade marking next to the thumbdisk:

SOCFK-1A
186

Now, if I remember correctly, the -1A is supposed to mean a spearpoint, isn't it? If that is so, then mine is mismarked and rare and therefore should be worth enough to trade straight across for a Super Commander, right?;) :p

Seriously, am I wrong about the -1A?

You are correct in saying that the A is designated for spearpoints and the B is for tanto blades. But I am sorry to tell you that your SOCFK is not rare. I believe that all the SOCFK Tantos were marked 1A, I sold one to a friend who thought the same thing and contacted Emerson, they said that "generally" A means spearpoint and B means tanto, but the SOCFKs are the exception I believe. I think that they ALL have 1A marked on the blade. (all tanto blades that I have seen and owned are marked 1A)

Sorry, ;)

I'm still not convinced. A guy I work with carries an SOCFK identical to mine: BTS Tanto. His is marked:

SOCFK
217

This is the 4th SOCFK I've owned, three tantos, one spearpoint, and the spearpoint was the only other marked SOCFK-1A.

Confused.

Hey Matt - neither of mine - a BT and a GT - have a "1A". The BT says "SOCFK 670", and the GT says "SOCFK 035".

Being a project with close ties to the military on the East Coast, we wanted to keep the name in line. Special Operations Command Folding Knife "1"st. variation, revision "A". That is where the 1A comes from. These "1A" marked knives are the very first run of SOCFK's to come out.

The "1A" was later dropped because it is confusing.:D

Congratulations, Matt!

I would have never spotted such a marking in a million seconds. Sharp eyes make for great finds.

Ah! But I'm in line for a couple of TAD Super Commanders, So my friend, we shall meet again! :)
