misch

The mischmetal firesteels seem to throw larger globs of molten material (bigger sparks) than the regular ferroceum rods. However, some say that they require a slightly different striking/scraping technique. Folks in W&SS seem roughly split between the two as far as preference.

You might search W&SS because there have been a lot of threads touching on this subject.

Direct from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Can't ask for any better than that!

It's a good video! And I'm on pins and needles waiting for my larger fire steel to arive from Going Gear. Been thinking about making my own video showing me make a fire with tinder found in the alley behind my apartment using my Going Gear Firesteel and Izula or BK-11. :) thems good stuff.

They are excellent ... you just need a sharp edge to get very hot burning globs of molten metal as well as good technique which only comes with practice.
