Mismarked Blades

Not common.

Some models, 501 and 424 for example, have the same blade except for the tang stamp model number so they are interchangeable. A knife builder at Buck could put a 110 blade into a 426. It happens. This is a good thread topic if you could get members to dig out examples and photograph them.

Here are a few photo's of what Oregon is saying.
The bottom knife in this photo is a 503, the standard 503 comes with a drop point style blade and the bolsters are straight. The top knife is a 55, the standard 55 comes with a clip style blade and the bolsters are curved.

This knife has a 503 frame (straight bolster) and a 55 (clip point) blade.

jb4570, off subject, but that last one is a beauty! nice! the straight lines of the bolsters [frame] the handle perfectly......the blade is a a real nice accent and set off the whole knife. If you said we are going to [design] a knife that says FISHING this would be it.....the blade even looks like a tropical or native fish. I want it! LOL

The last 560 were assembled with 110 blades. Also you find 110 with 560 blades. Some 110 buildouts got the black powdered 560 blades. I have a factory made 111 with a drop point blade 426. The 505 size blades have been built in all the frames made for blades with the same size in every possible combination.

I have a 505 but when you open it the blade says 425. Is this common?

It happens more often than you would think. Buck has made 11 different knife models using that same 1-7/8" blade and lockbar. 425, 505, 506, 507, 515, 525, 526, 527, 529, 825, and 826. The blades for these knives are all the same and really only vary by the tang stamping and finish. The first 505 shipped in 1978 so that means alot of years have passed for some mixing and matching to have occured.

What about others like the 110 and 112?

Here is one for you edbeau,

This is a SO knife made by Buck for Bass Pro Shop, it's the Bob Timberlake 111 (however this 111 has a 110 blade)
