Mismatched scales

I had the thought of using mismatched scales on a knife mod.
Then today I saw a Buck knife with mismatched scales and it looked kinda cool.

What do you think?
Would you buy a knife that was made with two different scales?

What about two completely different sides? i.e. one side mirror polished, the other left with a forge finish?

No (well, not unless it was intended to be that way - ie ZT 0560's titanium and G10)....and no.
It's your knife - do with it as you please; but understand that it impacts the marketability (and value) of the knife

No. That looks ridiculous to me. :barf:

Its not at all clear if you want to mod your knife to look like that...if so, its your knife...do whatever you want to it.

If you are planning on selling it...I'd pass. Blech.

And are you talking about a blade with different finishes on each side? If that's the case...even more "no."

Thank you both!
I like the idea and will do it for me.
But I was shopping the idea as I will eventually be selling some knives here. I'm just starting to make blades, and while I'll be making what I like for me I want to make what will sell also.

You may want to get get the appropriate membership level before you "shop" ideas here on knives you may sell. Not sure on the exact rules or what precisely is considered promotion, though.

Something to research.

The ZT 0561 comes with "mismatched" scales, one side being titanium, other one is G10. It's not a bad look.

I hope asking "do you like this idea?" is an OK thing to ask before I buy a makers membership.

Ask any and as many...its not until you want to sell your knives do you need to upgrade....though a good place to ask is the "General knife makers discussion" area...been there and done that type answers

Years ago I put together a kit knife (liner lock). I used black canvas micarta on one side and green canvas micarta on the other. It came out pretty nice.

I don't know, thinking about something like a Rat 2 with 2 different color scales could possibly be cool.... I think it would depend on the colors. It would be funky for sure!
