You put a label on a thing that is the wrong one and you have a misnomer.

Here's one that was listed as a vintage Buck 119 but has since been relisted to lessen the misnomer saturation level. After looking at so many authentic Buck knives over the years it is kind of fun when I discover one. Maybe you've found one or actually own one:

Note that the knife has etched onto the blade: "1882-1982" Also notice that the actual authentic Buck sheath has "100 Years" tooled into the leather. The knife is not a Buck knife. The sheath is a Buck sheath. The two don't go together. However, 100 years is 100 years... Coincidence or misnomer or should I have chosen a different, more castigating word perhaps, for the title of this thread?

It reminds me of a knife I saw at an auction near San Diego; a knife with a FB stamped on it(Factory Blemished), it was listed as owned by Frank Buck on the
auction sheet!! No one questioned it even tho there are a few thousand floating around since the factory was near here for so many years....

A Frank Buck knife, an authentic one, would be a gas to behold and a prize to own. I've not seen one in person, only in photos. My understanding is that he made some sensational Bowie knives, something I like.

A factory blem, on the other hand, could make a good user (The FB, factory blem, is only on the box now and not on the knife itself).

The above pictured shiny fixed blade screams JAPAN to me. I took the bold step to discuss the knife with them and they told me that it was listed as it was described to them by the person from whom they received it. Tall tales can be sticky. The reality/truth can be hard won with many obstacles between it and your understanding. The question "is it authentic" can be puzzling/vexing and slippery.

Must be a pretty new word, Wikipedia said it didn't exist. But I do think I heard it on the Big Bang Theory. 300

If I had to guess at the meaning of "Esnomers" I would say that it targets misnomers to one source only and that would be the popular auction site where I plowed up this snake. But that is just a guess. This thread begs for more photos.

Not a word at all, trying to be funny, unsuccessfully though it looks. I threw the E in for E-bay misnomers. I tried my stand up :foot:

Oooh, I see you were talking about 'Ebnomers'. An event that has an auction like appearance but in which half-truths are commonly told.

COL (chuckling out loud). Thank you both kindly for the humor. Much appreciated

Ebnomers doesn't exactly roll off the tongue but then why advertise the shell game that the auction place can be at times by putting the whole name of it into the new word.

Gsea & 300 have an act. Cutlery humor. Time to take it on the road to this season's knife shows perhaps. Where do I get tickets?

If you were to call them Elinomers then Eli would complain of slander. Balderdashnomers causes the spell checker in the software to smoke. However, horsemanurenomers glows with truthyness an seems right to my ears.

Did you hear an actress got stabbed last nite? Reese, Reese something.
Witherspoon?
No a knife!

That's it I'm out of here (always leave on a high note).

This is turning out to be more of a word factory than a cutlery thread. You guys are killing me with cleverousity. BTW Haebbie Germans aren't supposed to have a sense of humor, just so you know. Mine, my sense of humor, was removed at birth. :)

If it would warm up some they would start the NOhomer season.... Well, maybe not the Seahawks......300
