I found a good condition carbon steel Schrade 8OT for $10, it had a decent sized nick out the main blade but non of the blades were particularly worn done and besides needing a mild cleaning it was in great shape.

I'm trying, and have been for a while, not to buy knives recently, at least not till I build up some "extra" cash anyway. It was hard but I left it behind, its not everyday the little bargain bin gets an old Schrade in it, and there some of my favorites to pick up :( but sometimes it's just not the right time,

wondering if anyone else has ever had to leave a good deal behind, it might take my mind of the little fella :p
here's a picture of it's (still lonely) little brother...for now

Yup, quite a few GEC's because I don't want the seller to wait. The only way I can pay is through MO, and I can only send MO's on the weekend. Theses past few weekends, i've been busy. I really want a single spear point #15 in cocobolo or ebony.... One day perhaps :o

I like the hump in the spey blade on that one. I think GEC did that on the Western Trapper...? Looks much cooler than an ordinary spey.

I know what you mean - some of these great deals that JK is offering are tough to pass up - I just have so many knives that I can't justify getting more, unless I get rid of some of my current collection.

Problem is, I don't want to get rid of any of my current collection!

Maybe someday.......

don't get me started, those are the ones I try not to think about

I've missed out on some good ones. Not the end of the world.

Although now I'm remembering them and it does kinda make me wish I had just gotten them. Especially the phenomenal deals I passed on at flea mkts.

I try to follow my maternal Grandpa's advice on deals. If you find it- great, if not it was just not meant to be. But of course there are those that you go back for and aren't there any more, that haunt your dreams, your every waking moment- wondering if its okay, if they oil the joints, hoping that they have a nice fine sharpening stone and not an electric "shudder" can opener sharpener. Hoping the covers have been respected, that it isn't sitting in an ashtray in a drug den somewhere......

Or maybe I just over-think these things.

So many and they still haunt my dreams and daydreams. An old Wadsworth sitting in cabinet of an old antique shop comes to mind. It was a particularly divine old knife. In my daydream I find myself thinking of it, its subtle curves, the imperfections, where it might have belonged. There came over me a curious sense of being part of it, of all things that surrounded it. The glittering of light off its metallic surfaces, the shadows in its textures, the subtle color of age, the mystery of its life. One of those moments that survive in the memory, perhaps because it seemed then and afterwords to be the apotheosis of delight in living when for a brief time one becomes a part of a pattern in which egotism and loneliness are alike annihilated.

Only one. I saw a pretty crude looking knife in a shop with colored plastic washers for a handle. It had BUCK stamped on it, very crudely and unevenly. I thought it was a Pakistan knockoff, but now realize it may have been a very early Buck, back when they were made one at a time. I still kick myself in the ass every time I think about it.

thanks all, good to know I'm not the only one, although I think I feel your misses just as much as my own :(

Ahhh, yes. The ones that get away in collecting have so much in common with the 'ones that got away' in romance. In our dreams the knives, like the women, become perfect in direct proportion to their unattainability.

I remember a lot of my misses long after, years after, I would have lost interest in them if I'd acquired them when I had the chance and passed.

As Spock says to the 'victor' in the Ponn Farr fight: "Having is not the same as wanting. It is not logical. But it is often so."

Emotions are illogical sometimes! I've also had those moments where I get exactly what I think I want. Get it in hand and then immediately don't want it. Lol.
