Hello all,
I missed the Charlotte show this morning, and I was so looking forward to some of Bubba's BBQ! I have a good reason though, and I post this asking for your prayers and thoughts.

My son and his best friend were at the house yesterday afternoon. Both of these boys are 16 and have been best of friends since kindergarten. While looking in my closet for some change to take his mothers car to the carwash, my son pulled down a downsized 12 gauge shotgun I have on a single gunrack above the door, sorta out of sight out of mind. It happened. My son accidently shot his best friend hitting him in the left hand.
The gun was loaded with birdshot and it was a low powered shell. Of course the damage was done due to the closeness. His hand is going to require some reconstructive surgery.
Of course my son has been and still is torn out of his frame over this. I am glad to say that James is a gentle soul who stands 6 feet tall and weighs around 300 pounds and has a heart of gold. This has really hit him hard, not to mention his buddy William!

So I ask for your prayers and thoughts for these two boys and their families.

Plan on comming down to Charlotte in March.
See you then!

p.s. remember me since I own this "weapon of mass destruction" and expect to hear from the local DA on Monday.

Thanks.

Wow.That is truly bad news, but thank God your sons friend didn`t catch the load in the face.He could easily be dead now.Best of luck dealing with the local LEO`s.

Art, what a shame, take care of your son and tell him to take some solace in the fact that it could have been a lot worse.

Art

Will have your familiy the friend and his family in my thoughts and prayers.

Art,

I am terribly sorry to hear about this tragic accident. I hope your son will be able to cope with the psychological strain and most of all that the surgeons will be able to restore his friend's hand. I wish all of you the best and hope for a good outcome.

Since you ask for thoughts as well, I will include this link:

I know this might be taken the wrong way by some members and it is not my intention to add insult to injury, but if we all rethink the issue maybe we can help to prevent accidents like this in the future.

Damn Art, what a lousy thing to have happen. I hope your son's friend and your son will be OK. My prayers are with you all.

Many thanks friends. We appreciate all your thoughts and prayers. From talking to Will's parents today everything seems to be going great. There is feeling in all fingers and thumb along with good color. The next 48 hours will be critical to make sure an infection does not set up. Must say that all involved have been nothing but positive. My wife who was on the front line on this accident has been a real trooper. James still blames himself for this, and of course it would have all been preventable IF I had not had a loaded gun in the closet. But that is water under the bridge as our hindsight is usually 20/20!
The most important thing is that Will is alive as it could have been much worse. Much worse!
Again I wish to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart. Your thoughts and prayers are heard by our great and mighty God and felt by our families. Thank you.

Art,

My thoughts are with you. I did not check this forum for some time. So sad to see this. I hope your son and his friend recover physically and mentally from this. This is really a hard time. Good Luck

Sorry to hear that. Hope things work out in the end.

I think we all need to think about "our" hobby and realise that like a gun a knife is dangerous. Ok it was a gun, but unlike a gun a knife is ALWAYS loaded, ALL the time.

I forget how sharp my blades are at times, Wow they kinda let you know how stupid you are!

Hope it works out for you in the end, good luck.

Best wishes

W.A.

Again I just want to thank everyone for their response's. Everything seems to be going well for Will today. He is in more pain today, but that was expected according to the docs. James is still giving himself a hard time and will for a while. Both of Wills parents spoke to James today and have forgiven him and assured him that they understand that it was an accident. This has gone a long ways towards helping him.
I continue to ask for your prayers and thoughts for all involved. Never forget that prayer is the mightest tool we have!

Thanks!

Art,
These things can never be easy. I hope that you can find it in yourselves to forgive. We have to forgive ourselves before we can feel the forgiveness of others. It is ironic that the very acts that we could forgive others for are much harder to forgive within ourselves. It is my earnest prayer that you will seek counsel in this time of pain and sorrow, either through the church or through other counsellors. Things will never be the same for you and James. That does not mean that things will not be good again for you both. Martha and I will hold you and James up in our prayers every day.
