I'd been following this five pin sixth version (2 dot) but just didn't have the 50 bucks.

Oh well....:grumpy: I seem to remember Joe saying that when they transitioned from the 3 pin to the 4 pin they already had some 3 pin scales pre-drilled so the used them up by making a five pin for a while. It's a little late now but does anyone know how few of these were made?
What do they say...he who hesitates is worth two in the bush......or something like that. :)

Uh...I don't know how others identify them, but I call them 2-pin and 3-pin...I don't count the steel rockerbar pin... ;)

But anyway...some of the 110's I've taken apart had 3-pin scales but the liners were drilled for both 2-pin and 3-pin scales...so they actually had 4 pin holes (plus steel rockerbar hole)...I posted a pic of one of the liners, it's here somewhere...I made up a 2-pin Micarta scale for that knife and put it back together...

So if what you remember Joe saying is correct, and what I found is true, then they had overlapping amounts of everything and just threw them together whichever way they pleased until the old style scales/liners got used up... :D

Sorry Trax, :foot: I tend to over simplify things when I'm talking with most of the sellers on ebay by lumping the rocker pin together with the scale retainer pins. I have to remember my audience....:o Thanks for straightening me out :D
Of course I'm referring to the transition from 2 scale pins to 3 during the sixth version. I wonder how many 4 pin versions were actually created when using up the old scales. There's probably no way of knowing.

the 5 pin was only in 79.. in fact 4 brass scale pins and a lock rocker pin
which is always steel except in some early versions
it is unknown how many there were
it was a case of using up the two pin predrilled scales
it is a oddity that is a neat one year variation.

Thanks for the info Dave, I sure wish I coulda grabbed that one.......maybe next time :)

I'm certainly no expert on anything...but...

I don't count the rockerbar pin because they all have them (even if hidden). It doesn't hold the scales on, so I don't count it as a scale pin.

Some of my nomenclature is incorrect, too. As long as I know what I'm talking about, I'm happy... :D
