Here's a 10/10 Silver Mounted Royal Dhankuta made by Bura. Problem is the chakma got lost during shipping.

We will deliver this knife to your door for $195 for a savings of $80. Terry Sisco can make a matching chakma if you send him the karda. He'll probably charge a lot less that $80 so you can still realize a very decent savings on this rig. Or, you can go it alone with the karda only and keep all the $80.

Merry Christmas!

Wow, that's a sweet Khuk and a great savings. I hope that Beauty finds a good home really fast.:)

Uncle,
What are the specs on this one? Blade size, OA Length and such?
Thanks....I am seriously thinking this one over and fighting the savings demons :D

12 inch oal, 8 & 4. 5/16 thick. Weighs 10 oz. Excellent work by Bura, Great fit and finish. Horn looks like ivory.

NO mail yet, QM but it's yours. Be sure to send mailing address. We'll get it shipped tomorrow or Monday.

Holy Toledo! What a looker! Congrats, Q.

Uncle: Out of curiousity, is the scabbard meant for sash carry since it appears to be Frog-less?

QM,

Thank you (and nice grab). I might have been tempted to get it when I got back from running errands. Luckily (for my checkbook), you stepped up and claimed it :D.

Don't forget to give a report when it arrives... inquiring minds want to know :)

I have one of these as well. Bro's right when he says the horn looks like ivory. Mine has a nice cream color to it, better than whitetail antler.:)

Actually, this scabbard is not practical for carry. If I were going to carry it I think I'd commission Sandi to make a canvas cover for the scabbard with an attached loop -- which sort of defeats the purpose.

The knife is fully functional but it's primarily a show piece.

Thanks, Uncle! I thought that was the case, but I'd rather know than think I know, ya' know! Very cool. Bura's reputation is obviously well earned. Amazing :D

One of the KNNs uses the butter lamp with no flame for a mark which is very close to Bura's cresent moon mark. Both do very good work but it's generally the bloodgroove or the sword of Shiva that tells the true maker.

If you look at the picture you'll notice the bloodgroove is straight as an arrow and looks like it's been machined. KNN looks like it's been pounded in with a hammer and chisel. Of course it has and so has Bura's but there is a noticeable difference.

Uncle, I believe you have just re-identified my Gelbu Special. Although very well made, the blood groove is slightly off plumb-line straight, and the usual chisel marks are evident.
also, there was slag in the cho, which all of my KNN blades had, except the WWII. I had taken the "unlit" butter lamp for Bura's crescent, but with reservations due to the above, and a dot above the bowl, which appeared to be a mark left by someone who intended to start a wick and flame, but stopped at that point and left just the bowl. This is an excellent blade - not a problem, but rather a point of curiosity in identifying marks. Nepal Ho :)

It's basically the difference between a village kami who makes excellent khukuris and the Royal Kami who makes excellent khukuris for the king when so commissioned.

I'm pretty certain mine was also made by KNN. Although the Sword of Shiva is very well done the kami mark isn't up to Bura's standards.
The rounded part of the bottom has a little mismatch. The bowl is a little too high and perhaps similar to Walosi's GS the bowl has what appears to be the start of a flame.
And there are other little details the average person wouldn't notice, it's just not as well done as Bura's consistently is.
But still a dayumed fine knife and not one that I'm that critical of.:)

It's not only the Sword of Shiva that defines Bura's work, it's the overall feel of the khukuri. My 22" Kobra is an example. The wood handle is extremely well made and fits beautifully in my hand. The blade is around 16" or 17" long and a little less than 3/8" thick but the weight distribution and balance is such that it feels like an extension of my arm. The speed and ease of maneuverability with which I can wield this short sword is breathtaking.
