I know is most likely a unwanted post here in the general section, but I am curious. Why doesn't Benchmade have there own forum here??? A Majority of there competition does. From what I understand Angie and several other Benchmade employees moniter the a few of the threads. Is it that they have no intrests in having there own or what?? This is most likely a question for Spark or one of the senior members who might have heard this addressed before. Can anyone give me a heads up??

Benchmade hosts their own forum from their website. They probably don't have time to Moderate a forum here and the one there. That would be my guess.

That might be the case. Although Spyderco has there own forum and still hosts one here, holds contest and has Sal personally answering allot of questions.

Back a few years ago a number of negative threads where deleted on the BM forum.

Discussion got pretty lame at that point because I think people got afraid of saying anything but "Model xxx Great Knife!" and "Where do I send in my knife for service?"

Thangs might have changed for the better, but I pretty much never bothered since.

I believe that all manufacturers are invited to have their own forum provided they have someone to moderate it (there may be a few other rules they have to agree to, Spark?). You would probably have to ask Benchmade why they do not choose to have their own forum here.

With the amount of traffic and discussion that this site generates, I do not see any reason that a manufacturer would not want their own forum to discuss their products and introduce new items.

I can easily think of reasons why someone would not want a forum here. A forum means information flow, both good and bad. This scares some people/companies.

Some think that an uncontrolled environment is a scary one.

It also does take alot of time to participate or moderate. Many companies never answer email even when they publish their email address. So having a company spending time to participate is a big commitment.

Each company makes their own choices as to if it's worth it or not.
