I purchased this on an auction site for $36 bucks. In the description it mentioned that the pin was missing, but its gonna be a user so I didn't mind.

This vintage stag barehead peanut is mint aside from the missing pin. What do you guys think, should I have it repaired or leave it be?

I think you should get it fixed, could lead to cracking or loosening of the scales.
Nice find though!

The only way to properly repair that is to completely disassemble the knife. It's not worth it. You could glue a false pin in the hole.

Thanks for the replies guys. :D I can't imagine the handle loosening or cracking because one of the four scale pins are missing. The stag scale is solidly held in place by the remaining three pins. The hole without the pin is clean and I don't think it will crack. I may epoxy in a false pin or just fill it in with something.

Thanks again.

i think you can send that in to Case and they will fix it for you, it might be better to email them the picture and ask first before you send it though just in case...

i wouldn't worry too much about it.

I don't think it is safe for you to use an obviously defective tool. Send it to me for proper disposal.

After much thought and a few glasses of Glenfiddich, I should have it disposed of properly. I wouldn't want anyone loosing a finger. Morrow...what is your shipping address? ;) j/k I am not that tipsy.
