Missing UH Knives

I hear ya! And it went uphill FAST! Bid was at $178 with 7 minutes left. Guess I can pretty much give up on finding the last two I need.:(

Never Say Never Dave! Unreal end price to say the least. good job of posting the final page thawk! I had seen it at about the same figure that Dave did then missed the finish.. has anyone ever issued production figures on BFC for these special UH models?

I had written the seller (I do this all the time on Ebay) to find out where he got the knife:

"T
his knife actually belonged my partner's father that passed away in 2004. He probably bought it new and sure doesn't look like he used it much. We own a small used furniture business here in town and his mother was cleaning out some stuff from their house because she is planning on selling it. The knife was in a bag full of Halloween decorations of all things that she sent here. I was about to put the bag away with other Halloween stuff, when i felt something in it and that it was the knife."

These are the production numbers out of Larry Vickery's "Missing UH" doc on his fantastic Collectors Website.

LB4 - 5107
892UH - 1673
707UH - 1724

Thanks for the info thawk! Yep pretty low numbers compared to many of the other models.

So, why is the price so ridiculous ? an older Case in excellent condition could bring that, or more.
i think, that thanks to this forum, there is a growing appreciation of and interest in, "Schrade USA". they are good knives; there is an unending variety; the history going back to late 1800s is interesting; and, there are lots of Schrade oddities or mystery knives to add further intrigue.
so the 892UH is rare and the price reflects that. i think from now on you are only going to get a knife like this cheaply if there is very limited exposure.
Schrade USA is beginning to assume it's deserved place along with Remington, Winchester, Case and others, as worthy collectibles.

Well, unpredictable might be a better description actually. You gave a nice view on Schrade collecting in general. Glad to have picked up the missing examples over a year ago.

Well-said Roland!
I think we are shocked because we are used to buying them much cheaper. As the supply dries up, the price goes up. We just happen to have seen the value of Schrade and invested early. As Roland said, "an older Case in excellent condition could bring that, or more." I think we will be seeing a lot more of this sort of thing in the years to come.

Now, aren't you glad you got into collecting Schrade early? :D

Makes me feel like the stock market just might bounce back again.
I'm holding onto my silver 75th till it comes back to the 1000. original asking price.

I remember buying an 885UH for $10.50 one month before the announcement of the closing of the factory.:grumpy: A least us true believers got some bargains before things went nuts.
