I just finshed watching the 1st MI for the hundreth time. I've been trying to figure out what kind of knife the guy has. The one that falls 30 ft and sticks in the desk. Anyone know what it is? how much they cost? where I can get one? Or was it something made just for the movie?

This has been discussed quite a bit in the past. There are two trains of thought. One is that it is a computer generated knife and the other is that is some kind of Boker, but no one seems to know which model. My guess is that it is computer generated.

The knife should be real, it was handled by the actors, the scene where it falls may be cgi. I looked up the supposed Boker, it looks nothing like the movie knife. I saw nothing in the credits last time I watched it, but that's been a while.

There was a thread on rec.knives a while back. The guy who made it is an Austrailian. He is a propmaker in the movie industry and sometimes knifemaker. The knife is modeled after a Puma Lockback. The guy used to be a puma repair represenative or something like that. It,(the knife) was in all liklehood a quickie made for the movie. There were probably a few made.

In most scenes the knife has to be real, but during the falling scene it is most certainly computer generated. It is totally smooth and shiny, there are no rivets or screws visible, there is no lock tab in the backlock cutout, and that slot in the spine actually seems to move. (Liquid metal, maybe? :))

Watched the film a few times and always thought the knife was a Kershaw Amphibian (?) dive/leg knife. Don't know why. It just struck me as "Hey, that's a Kershaw Amphib!". Am I mixing up MI1 and MI2? If so, sorry:confused:

OH MAN!!! I think it would be a good knife IRL. It sure is purdy!!!! I have an addiction to getting movie gadgets(knives, guns, watch, etc. I usally get the gadget to see if it will do the things they do with it in the movies. Of course I'm always let down. But that's Hollywood for you and it something fun to do.

You are indeed mixing up MI 1 and MI 2.

Liquid metal?????

That was sublime!
ROTFMFL.

If I was Tom Cruise I would definitely request CGI knives. Wouldn't want to look like a wimp next to a Strider BT or such.
