Does anyone have any opinions on this model from Mission knives. I'm only interested in the A2 versions.

Thanks

I consider it as one of the best knife in this class. If you do some research you may find more background information. It may have good old steel, nothing fascinating but blade geometry, handle ergonomics - shape and material it made from are simple the best. Busse and Swamp Rat has for sure better steel, but in terms of usability MPK-10S is far ahead.

It is 1992 model and it is in production even now. Not too many knives exists for so long - it is well proven design.

Little plus - it has coating nobody else in this class has.

But be prepared to resharpen it - out of the box it is not as good as it can be.

Thanks, Vassili.

I too agree that it's one of the top knives for the money in the ~5" bladed category. Ergonomics on the MPK10A2 is excellent; it's a little light in the blade for major chopping, but it is stout enough to use for other tough chores. For the size, I prefer it over my two Striders or Trident Oberland 02and would rank it up there with my Mad Dog PATAK and Fehrman Last Chance. Like I said, you get great performance for the price. I know there was talk of a 3/16" version, but now I hear they will stay 1/4" slabs. Either way, the flat grind is well done and it sharpens up very easily. My only issue is the bulky sheath, it's currently at home and will have to be sent out for an Okuden aftermarket sheath.

Not talked about very much, but of the several knives in that size that I own, I would rank it about 8 or 9 out of 10 for my uses.

Thanks guys!

I have been searching for some info or reviews online but it has been hard to locate. I found the 5" model for $150 but it has the partially serrated edge and I would prefer the straight blade instead.

Still having trouble finding a plain edge model for a reasonable price. I can get the serrated 5" model for only $134.00, but the plaine edge is hard to find for under $190 :grumpy:

Mission makes really good serrations, by the way. The serrations are rounded and not pointy, so they tend to slice cleanly rather than tear. They are not as aggressive as the traditional pointy serrations, but still a lot more aggressive than a plain edge.

I have no patience at all so I may end up going with the partially serrated model. Thanks for the info on the serrations by the way.

Mission does indeed do a very nice job on their serration pattern. A solid combination of fluidity and aggression.
