I plan on buying one next month. I have owned the MPF Ti years ago. That one had right hand tip down only and the clip was held on by the pivot screw. Since then, they have come out with a newer version that is L/R tip up. That is the one I'm buying. Does anyone know if there are any other differences in the new version besides clip placement? And yes, it will get waved and possibly carbidized.

Mission Knives have a very complicated history, various owners and QC issues(do a bit of googling). I believe the original folder was skeletonised like this new batch. I purchased one of these new model 2 years ago a serrated tanto, the knife came unsharpened with no edge. I was also supposed to recieve a bonus sharpener, that never turned up. 10 years ago I purchased a fixed blade Misssion the then owner was a gentleman and the knife arrived perfectly. Living in Australia the risk of losing my folder to customs wasn't worth the risk to send it back. The clip on mine is quite flimsy, now after all that I'm still glad I own it. Hopefully Mission has got it's act together now and you're both in California? Another forum member STR I think has a lot of info on Mission folders and has worked on them a bit.

I have an MPF myself, bought it in like 1993 or 4. Carried rarely, not impressed with edge holding. Don't really care for the clip retained by the pivot screw. Holds a place in a show case of other titanium frame locks, including a Benchmade Skirmish (Cutlery Shoppe limited edition), Kershaw JYD II Ti/SG2 and a Camillus Cuda Maxx 5.5 D2.

Matt- I like the upgrades. lmk what you think.
I now prefer the Ti/laminate Warren Thomas folder. It's tough but very light weight.

Unfortunately Mission has had a bit of a tumultuous history.

Like some have already stated, you can find plenty of info online.

I love their Ti folder designs and have considered picking one up years ago.

I would like to hear more on their MFK Series, as they are fairly priced.

I think people ask way too much for the MPK-Ti, yes it's discontinued but IMO doesn't carry a $1000 price tag.

Anyone own one of their MKF-Ti???

Here is my 1993 MPF in a collection of titanium unobtanium knives, stored in a CAO Soprano series collectors cigar box. third from the left. The others include a Kershaw JYD II TI SG2, a Benchmade Skirmish, serialized limited edition from the Cutlery Shoppe, and a Camillus Cuda Maxx 5.5 D2.

Nice knives and smokes there!

Nice knives and smokes there!

They are good smokes. I am doing my utmost to leave these in my humidor and not smoke them. Taking them out for the pictures has them calling my name. Got to put them away before I succumb to temptation. ;-)

I've decided to put this purchase off for now in favor of buying a WT.

Probably a wise decision. Personally do not know why I ever bought it to begin with. Just fascinated with the ALL TITANIUM theme I suppose. Worked on the B-2 Stealth bomber in those days, and it has a large amount of the precious metal in it's construction. It does not hold an edge worth a s--t. It's only real usefulness is you can pry with it without fear of ruining it. Otherwise, mine rarely ever sees the light of day. Once in a blue moon, I'll carry it because someone I work with and myself get into a knife discussion, and I'll start rotating my right hand carry knife to show off my collection, one day at a time.

I live in Oklahoma, so am not out swimming in salt water. So no benefit there. Nor am I defusing mines, heaven forbid.

The knives in that cigar box, IIRC are all out-of-production now. The one from Camillus, that business is totally gone. One day I may succumb to temptation and sell the whole shebang for a nice price. Right now, they are keepers just for the unobtainium reason.

I've owned both versions of the Cuda Maxx as well as a Dominator. Those were a gateway drug to DDR customs!

Do you know how he attaches the CF to the Ti? How does such a blade hold up over time and use?
