Mission MPF-1 A-2

I recently purchased a Mission MPF-1 with the A-2 blade, and I am so pleasantly surprised, I had to spout about it. I have plenty of quality folders, incuding Sebenzas, a SERE 200, Military, Delica w/carbon fiber, LCC, etc, etc, but this knife is blowing me away. At first I thought it was way too over the top for every day carry, but after a couple weeks, I find myself grabbing it every day when I go out. The blade is a perfect shape for everday utilitarian tasks, and I couldn't believe how easy the A-2 blade sharpened up. I thought it was going to be a b***h to sharpen. Also, I normally dont buy partially serrated blades, but on this knife, they just seem right. They're even on the correct side of the blade for right-handers, the right side, according to generally accepted opinion. This blade, with its completely flat grind, cuts through stuff like it's butter. As for the handle, it's heaven. The knife just falls into your grip. The ergonomics are unbelievable. There is even a cutout (choil?) between the blade and handle for your index finger for delicate work, and that is also comfortable. Yes, it's probably overpriced at $375, but I figure this knife has a good hundred years use in it, and I am going to pass it down through my family. Anyway, we're all knife nuts here, and price is no object when you find the right one, right? I cant believe this knife is not more popular or talked about. Does anyone else love this knife, or am I all wet?

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

You're off to a good start. Mission makes great knives but they need to advertise more to break through the cost resistance. I really like the MPF and I was thinking of getting the Ti bladed clip point, but I already have so many expensive folders ... now you've got me thinking about the A2 version, which would probably be more useful.

Thanks for the welcome, Esav. I've been lurking for a couple years, and have read many of your posts. I always glean some good information from your posts. I also thought about the titanium blade, and if I was in the Seals or something, I would probably consider it, but for normal use, I dont think Ti holds up as well as steel, and there's really no reason to prefer it. Like I said, this A-2 blade is a real surprise. I couldn't be happier.

I shouldn't be surprised. My favorite knife is a CRK Sable III which is A-2, of course. Bark River also does a nice job with A-2, but I haven't used my Bark River knives very hard.

Mission have to do a better job of supporting and advertising their A2 knives. They take and hold an excellent edge.

Mission's ergonomics are second to none. My MPK10S and MPK12S are the most comfortable to use fixed blade knives that I have ever owned.

Goodboy,
I feel the exact same way about the MPF A-2. I just got mine recently and was blown' away by the beefyness of the knife. 5/32 blade stock and the same for the Ti. Great blade shape and grind, mine is non-serrated, but I have a MPK 10" Ti with serrations which work very well. I may set mine up for tip up carry at some point, but I think Allen Elishewitz/Mission got alot right on this one. I do think this knife should be in the converstion when talking about "hard use" knives such as Strider, Sebenza, and Emersons (all of which I think are great as well).
