Hello Everyone,
Just picked up a Mission MPF-1 folder at a gunshow and my first impressions of it are good. Seems to be very well made, but cant find much or any reviews of the knife or company on this forum, why? I have to assume that it's not a very highly regarded knife due to the lack of interest. I went to their web site and frankly, it sucks! They need to fire their web designer!
Anyways, opinions on this knife?

Thanks,
Ram

It is an awsome knife. Hopefully you got the A2 version as it will prove much more useful over the pure Ti. ALthought the full Ti doea offer a coolness factor that's hard to deny.
Ether way, the knife is one of the best there is. My only issue was that I didn't care for the pocket clip. I think it'svery loose/springy so that it can fit on thick belts and such, It didn't work too well for pocket cliping.
The knife is a great design though, and it will do everything you ask of it within reason. The lock is very strong and I love the overall design including the blade shape too.
It's one of the best in my opinion. Maybe STR can change the clip for you if you don't care for it as I didn't.

Mission makes a great knife. I sold mine, MPF, for a Busse. If they tweak their folder line, I'll get another.

I've got the all-Ti version. Great knife, including the clip, on mine. Tight and springy enough to slide onto a pocket easily and hold well.

When I first got it, I used it in the kitchen, for a variety of things to cut up with it. Stayed sharp and cut well for a long time.

You won't hear much about it because it's not a mass-market item, Mission doesn't advertise it like Spyderco or Benchmade or Kershaw market their knives. That's rough when the knife is so expensive. Also, Ti does not perform as well as steel, so many people will avoid it for that reason. As Siggyhk said, go with the A2 for a better blade.

Ram, didn't look very hard did you, we just finished up talking about Mission in the general forum here like, yesterday or day before. Go through page 4 or 5 in General and find Mission Knives thread and read it. Hopefully you got a good one.

MikeC,
Sorry about that, but I totally missed that. How can I tell if I got one with beta-ti blade and handle? Mine has a blade and handle with the same texture and color. The color looks like that of a Sebenza.

Thanks,
Ram

Ram, I'll post some pictures of the three MPF's I used to have in a side by side comparison so you can see what I'm talking about.

Can't do it now, I'm late for an appointment but will do it later today, so check back.

Ram and others here they are these are pics of my 3 mpf's. Ram, if you will notice one of the mpf 1's is darker than the other and if you look close you can actually see a difference in the texture of the metal if you will? The darker one is one of the batch runs that the whole thing was beta ti including the handle. Also there were some other batch runs of regular mpf 1s that had 6Al4v handles and beta blades that were also well made. Sargent 666, I hate to even wright that, he was not asking how to discern if it was a steel or titanium blade, but rather if his handle was beta ti or 6Al4v?

I hope these pics come out good.

Hey man, I've got 3 more pictures but can't get them to load up. Sorry, I'd say pm but you can't because I'm not a paying member and I really don't feel like putting my email address out here. So wish I could posted more pix as the one I posted is probably the worst of the pix I was going to post to try and illustrate what I'm talking about.

Sorry.

Thanks MikeC,
I have posted pictures of mine next to a Sebenza for color comparison. My blade and handle are the same color and darker in color than the seb.
So, can you tell if I got an all Beta-Ti or not? I know the light is not good because sun is going down.

Thanks for the pix.
I'd like to see a completely new folder design.

Ram I can only tell when it is MPF 1 compared to MPF 1, I can say this the knife will have a different feel to it, kinda like shark skin it will be rough because of the way they finished that one batch run, they had to finish it slightly different because it was beta ti as opposed to 6Al4V, go back and look at my pictures I had about 4 more but could only get one to post.

The above pic is the one with a 6Al4v handle. The pic below is the beta ti handle. Hope this helps, I'm having a hell of a time posting pix.

Hope all of this helps Ram, but the differences are just much easier to see if you have two knives in front of you to touch. Even then it doesn't jump out at you, it is just that they have a special darker color to them it is almost like a goldish hue and slightly different feel kinda like high grit sand paper. Do you know when the knife was made, when and where did you buy it? The knives that got the beta ti handles were made early in 2000 decade say somewhere between 2000 and 2003, mine was bought from Brigade Quatermaster in 2004 but had been made several years prior.

Thanks MikeC!
I dont know when mine was made. I bought it at a gun show from a dealer I buy knives from. He probably got it on a trade and no telling where the original owner bought the knife. The texture of my knife is gritty when compared to the seb and of a darker color, so I may have a beta-ti. Its a pretty nice knife and thanks for all the information and help. Looks like I have a unique knife.
My friend also has one and I will inspect his and see if I can see any difference.
I know he bought his many years ago, so chances are pretty good he has an original beta.

Thanks,
Ram
