Aloha.
Well my ladyfriend gave me a Mission MPK knife for Christmas.
I'm curious about these knives as far as sharpening and caring for them. Its one of the titanium models, and never played with one before. Any RKI would be appreciated.

What's "RKI"? Not familiar with that, thanks!

I'm a little biased (I am a Mission dealer) so, for what it's worth - they are a great knife if you need the special properties of a Ti knife!

I sell these mainly to two primary markets, military and salt water folks (divers mainly). The main things that attract people to these models are their resistance to rust and sheer strength (it isn't brittle like ceramics). The vast majority of people are not concerned with triggering magnetic mines or its edge holding (similar to good 440 stainless).

With the new "super steels" and Talonite, the cosumers choices have become more complex and difficult. I still think Ti is superior (at least the variety Mission uses) to Talonite for the military market and the demands military users place on a knife. Talonite is being talked up a lot for good reason but, it is not a replacement for Ti knives. How do you plan on using your new knife?

Have you looked at Missions website and the articles at http://www.missionknives.com/articles/

Stay Sharp,
Sid

Mission sells a non-magnetic sharpener so that you don't contaminate your MPK when you sharpen it. Just make sure that you don't use it on any steel knives...

Aloha.
Thanks for the information Sid and Spark. I really just use the knife when going for hike or knocking around in the canefields here.Don't think any working around mines in my plans! Since I'm around the Pacific ocean, rust-proof qualities are nice.
Can the titanium blade be sharpened on regular stone/leather strop? Or is the special sharpener required?
Mahalo for your replies,

Howdy Tector!

I'll leave your questions to more knowledgeableistical people, but I wanted to let you know something that I learned a while back about the MPK.

When it is fully sharpened, it doesn't feel as sharp as it really is. I know that sounds odd, (go figure, coming from me) but I got it on good authority that it's true.

Something about titanium's properties or something.

Happy Trailblazing!

Thanks for all the good info you all shared with me on MPK.Vampire Gerbil trust me, I believe you regarding deceptive sharpness of the titanium blade.(As I look for more things to cut).
