Mission MPK Ti 12

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCqN7Fq6fYE You can always watch the test of the MPK-10 in titanium. Pretty damn durable knife, but the pricetag is pretty stiff.

I had watched the reviews I had found on YouTube. I actually got it the other day out of a trade, and wanted to just learn more about others' experiences with it so I'd know what to avoid doing with it, what are it's best applications, etc.

I love the Mission Ti knife! Go nut's with it but sharpen it per Mission's instructions.

I'd call them tomorrow. That Ti edge "has" to be sharpened the correct way and then buffed.

Beta Ti is fantastic stuff. My Mission knives could shave, right out of the box.

John More, the former owner of Mission Knives maintained that he kept his burr kings at 15 degrees for putting an edge and sharpening the beta ti blades. So that would be 30 inclusive. Also do not sharpen your beta ti blades with rods, stones, etc. that you use for sharpening steel blades as particles of the steel may contaminate the blade. This causes several problems, one it makes the knives magnetic which would we be a BIG problem for any EOD operators who may come to own and use this knife in theater one day. Second, the ferrous metal particles which may be left on your edge will rust and lead you think something is wrong with your knife when in fact it is not, it is just the ferrous particles rusting out and its esthetic only.

Like Rolf, said Beta Ti is some fantastic stuff and remarkably durable. It will take a razors edge but will not hold it for long, but will maintain a serviceable edge about as well as AUS 8. On a final note Mission Knives and Tools no longer exist nor has it existed since John More passed away several years ago. Mission Knives and Tools is now a sideline company under the Mission Aerospace Company umbrella as Mission Knife and Tool was purchased by Anthony the owner of Mission Aerospace for its inventory of material (Beta Ti). I would not attempt to contact them concerning your question I would do as your doing and seek assistance here from members who have knowledge and experience with Mission products.

Thanks. :) For realistic long-term survival use, would you recommend this knife, or is it more for cool-factor?

So Mike, are you saying from a collectors stand point that the old school Mission Knives have become much more valuable?

Rolf, your welcome.

volundoftheforge it all depends. If you have a way to sharpen it I see no problem with this knife for long term survival use, just remember your going to sharpen more if you want to keep a razors edge on it, however for that trade off you pick up durability and overall longevity that no other knife I know of can compete with. Beta Ti is very interesting stuff that simply will not rust under most if not all circumstances say unless you place it in boiling seawater or a handful of extremely harsh acids. Neither of which are conditions you as a human can withstand or are likely to encounter. It is also tough and probably the ultimate bend don't break material in the knife market place. I carry and use Mission knives and have for a while, I love the fact that they simply do not rust, rain, mud, blood, humidity, sweat, salt water, whatever bring it own. Just remember your going to sharpen a little more than the other guys, but I think it makes an good survival knife because of its incredible toughness and corrosion resistance.

I noticed his and my markings are different. Is mine just older?
(just saying, that's not a swastika. :P Came on the knife when I got it.)

It's funny how the word fake has become such a prominent word in the knife community. I was thinking the same thing Military Issue, I think your going to like this one.

The knife was issued to the USAF bomb squad EOD and passed the magnetic flux density tests required by the Department of defense in order for this item to be used in the field (Non Magnetic per MIL-M-19595)

When this mandatory test is completed, Items tested must be engraved and verified as seen on this knife. (;’ 2.99)

Gotta love Google.
