There's been a lot of hype over the years about "SEAL knives". That's extremely deceptive because SEALs, like any other military forces, use the specialized equipment the particular mission requires. Sometimes a big knife, sometimes a pocket knife, sometimes a pair of scissors
But many knives were developed with an eye on the hype, and can serve as hard use knives for combat zones or hunting or survival in the deep, dark woods of New Jersey.
SOG has a following. Their knives are not real expensive and they are OK for normal use.
Mission is known primarily for their titanium alloy knives. They do make them in A2 steel as well, which is great. But titanium is highly specialized, used for its non-magnetic, corrosion-resistant properties, and durability under hard use. It will set off metal detectors, but not magnetic mines. It will not corrode in sea water or blood or pretty much anything. It will not break.
The big problem for titanium is sharpness. It won't get as sharp or stay as sharp as steel. Nevertheless, I have two of their smaller models and I've used them extensively in the kitchen without a lot of sharpening needed, for opening packaging and cutting up fruits and vegetables and rolls.
Oh, and Mission knives are expensive.
