Mission Wallet: Leather or Sting-Ray Skin?

Had planned on the leather version but now they offer the Sting-Ray skin version. Not sure that the ray looks substantial enough. I want many years of service.

Handled a few ray skins at OKCA last weekend in Eugene. Felt...unusual.

I was going to use it, left rear pocket, to EDC my TNT, Fisher Bullet pen, cards, cash and change. I usually carry just a small leather card wallet, Correspondent by BOSCA. Need a secure place for change.

Does the zipper pull get in the way?

Any opinions welcome

Thank you kindly for your suggestion(s)

All the best,

I have a Sting Ray wallet, and the leather mission wallet. Both are tough, so get the one of your choice.

Stingray is very stiff compared to the cowhide, but both will last a long time. Also stingray doesn't stretch as easily. That can be a good or bad thing.

Thanks for the feedback my friends.

But what the heck am I thinking. I can't put a knife, pen, coins, cards & wallet in my back pocket and not bust something or raise a whelt on my rear. Is the Mission wallet designed for use only in the front pants pocket, jacket pocket or other non-rear pants pocket?

Does anyone sit on a fully loaded one with impunity?

Maybe a lifetime of left-rear pocket wallet carry can be broken. I don't know. Maybe I could learn to carry it in a front pant's pocket.

Oregon, a lot of us from New York City -- and some other places! -- typically carry wallets in the left front pocket. It's safer and more comfortable and encourages you to trim that wallet down to just what you need.

I use a leather coin purse sort of wallet similar to the Mission but slightly larger around. You can carry a lot in something like this because it doesn't have all those layers of leather inside organizing everything for you.

Back pockets are for wallets bigger around than the Mission, anyway. It would get lost in one.

As Esav emulates (love that word!), in the Big Apple and other big cities there are often times too much hustle and bustle in the crowds of our daily encounters. I carry the Mission as a "secondary" wallet where only some cash and a few charge/ business cards, a Telescoping Fisher Bullet pen and a small SAK are needed. My "real" wallet stays put with the important stuff. I am on my second Mission wallet in leather. I have found that they have held up quite well in either front or cargo pocket carry options. But the first had a damaged zipper. More than anything else, this is the weak point of the wallet in my personal experience.

Huh, I carry it in my front right pocket.... then again, I used to carry it in my rear right pocket, so I seem to be in the minority, even though I'm a righty.

The Mission type wallet would be best for a front pants pocket, or a windbreaker, interior pocket.

Stingray leather is super tough, the actual "beady bits" are made from the same material as teeth or bone, it is the leather underneath that is more like cowhide. The downside is that the material absorbs sweat, and when it dries, especially if worn in the back pocket, shows the salt in sweat in the form of white blotches.

If you carry a wallet in your rear pocket, carrying two wallets will help minimize bulk AND theft risk.

One wallet that I carry has only my necessary cards, cash and some business cards. That is the Deep Pocket wallet. These have served me well for over 6 years. I average 3 years per wallet:

Now, if for some reason some f-in thief gets hold of my chain wallet, they get my membership cards to a variety of organizations, my carry permits, and my old USNR ID, but no credit cards, no cash, and no drivers license. Make it harder for the pricks.

The Mission Wallet looks like a good idea.

Thank you kindly everyone for your good information. You are all all right. Gotta love this forum for its outstanding membership.

I ordered two Mission wallets, a black leather and a ray skin (with star as they were out of plain ray and brown leather), from Bladeart over the phone today.

Also, ordered a black Fisher bullet space pen (along with survival bandana, life boat matches & glow paracord), from TadGear, to help fill one of the wallets.

Good job oregon. Buy them both and sell the one you didn't like as much! Congratulations on your purchases. Don't forget to post some pics.

Oregon,
If you decide to unload one of the mission wallets, please let me know. My small classic Sebbie needs a home!

Traveling all over taught me about left front wallet carry.
I'm a righty too.
My pistol is in my right front pocket ;)
