Here's a knife with some great engraving. Serial # AA65958.
The Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association was established in Ava, Missouri in 1948 to preserve this unique breed of horse. In 1958 they had their first big annual horse show and this knife commemorates the 25th Anniversary of the show not the association itself.
I contacted the MFTHBA and they confirmed the above. Unfortunately no records were kept regarding these knives so how many were made and who did the engraving is still unknown.
Note the chalice or grail symbol engraved on the handle pin. This symbol also appears on my Anheuser-Busch LB7 # AA50907 ( http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/808423-Anheuser-Busch-Mason-LB-7?highlight=mason ).
I had originally thought the symbol was a Masonic thing but now I have to wonder if it is a hallmark or logo signifying who did the engraving.
I would love to find out whether this was a Schrade factory SFO or if it was engraved post-purchase. I'd also love to find out how many were made.
If folks can take the time to check for references to this knife or the grail symbol I would be very thankful!
Here's side-by-side comparison with Anheuser-Busch LB7 (note the matching chalice symbol on handle pins):
