Anyone seen the the mammoth mnandi on the bay with the misspelled birth card? It says MANDI. Wonder if its an error or a fake?

i believe its a error, the writing looks correct... like we say at my work place, it was done after lunch!

I am not an expert, but if you look at the birth card, notice all the little "dots" of ink on the writing, particularly the CRK Signature.

Those appear to be spots where the writer stopped as they were writing the card. This card appears to have been written slowly and deliberately.

You know the signature is pre printed on the card right?

No, I did not. Someone who was attempting to create a fake might not know that either.

If this is in fact real, which is probably is, I think that's pretty cool. To me, which some might think is stupid, I might compare this to a coin or something that was printed or made incorrectly which in the long run, makes it more valuable. But hey man, that's awesome you have a mammoth mnandi. I only have sebenza's and would really like to have a mnandi someday. Also, I think a knife like that would make an AWESOME gift for my dad this year. He's not really into knives like I am but respects them and I think, would love something like this.

Shake I have a mammoth mnandi but this one isn't mine, I just stumbled across it. I do agree with you though that if it is real it would be a cool collectable.

Hey guys!

The Mnandi in question is mine. I purchased it from Mr. Neil Ostroff at True North Knives in '05. I will be sending it back to CRK for the card fix. BTW I didn't realize that the sale of mammoth ivory is prohibited by ebay- the auction got pulled today.

skippuh idk that id have them fix the card but maybe see if theyd add a note saying it is in fact a typo. like I said above I think itd make a cool collectable

I did not know that either. I went and referenced their policy and it is clearly prohibited. I wonder if this is a recent policy change?

BTW, I would hold onto that card if I was you.

Amazing. What is eBay afraid of, the mammoth becoming extinct???

Actually, Ebay started to ban certain ivory in 2007 to try to conform with the Convention on Trade in Endangered Species agreement. In 2008, Ebay became concerned that it might not be able to ensure that ivory listed for sale on eBay is in compliance with the complex regulations that govern its sale. Perhaps, they thought that people might be selling post-ban Elephant ivory and labeling it as Mammoth ivory or something similar looking that wasn't governed by CITES. So, effective the 1st of January, 2009 .... went overboard and just banned all ivory (regardless of its source)! Hey, it's their sandbox. I guess, however, it is much like fakes/counterfeits. As I have seen Mammoth ivory inlaid knives listed for sale (some recently), I guess it's up to someone to complain and submit a report on the item .... (or buy it before Ebay is the wiser!). Here's a link to a discussion of this by an Ebay employee from 2008.

I purchased one from the bay about a year ago. I believe it was a "buy it now" so I must of won it before the bay was any wiser.
Thanks for the info.

Some of the synthetics are virtually indistinguishable...they need to ban plastics/synthetics, too.

Reminds me of a refurb. card that I got on my BG-42 reg. It said the rockwell was 58-59 :P

Keep the old card. Send the knife back to CRK for a nice spa job and ask for a new birthcard. This verifies that your folder is a CRK if you wish to sell sometime.
