Mistake or Good Find?

Was at a local Antique place here in Maine and I spotted this hatchet that had Demon written on it. I had seen a couple in pictures on this site and Facebook axe groups. But after trying to look it up online I found very little info. I paid 22 bucks...so if it's total trash I am not out much. The blade has some heavy...what can best be called gunk. Guessing I can wire wheel that off. This anything special? I'm a rookie as far as cleaning up Axe heads...so I will probably not start on this one. I'd love to restore it at some point.

Rumour has it that years ago, like the demonic messages in rock music played backwards, it is said thas Demon hatchets had their handles backwards.
