Hey guys. Had an impulse buy today because it was opening day and my shimano crapped out last year. I bought a mitchell avocet II silver series spinning reel the 10 lb one. So did i do good? Didnt have enough for a quantum or shakepeare because i needed line [spider wire mono] and a shakespeare graphite rod. Dont know much about the reel, so i want to know if i made a good buy or if ill regret it. Thanks!

These dsys all spinning reels are imported. For freshwater fishing any reel will last you for a number of seasons if not abused.

So if you are happy then you did good.

For salt spinning on a budget I am a big fan of the Shimano Spheros for inshore and Fin-Nor for heavy line.

I don't know much about the current production reels, but I have had a couple newer Mitchells and they have been fine. I always go back to my old Mitchell 300's though. My dad got me started using them when I was a kid, and I just always stayed with them... They kinda look like a dinosaur compared to the current technology though:D But then again, so do I :(

I love the older Mitchell 300 reels. I have six of them, one or two is pre-Garcia. I think they are all made in France. I find them everywhere, a lot on eBay.

When I was a young"un ,if you had a mitchell 308 or Garcia Cardinal you had something.

My grandfather said they've been around since he was a kid and hes 70+. I know they changed companies but i was wondering if they're still reputable.
