I have some production knives and some custom knives. Some of my knives have issues such as uncentered blade, blade play, etc. I knew one of the custom knives had been sent back to the maker to fix the blade play, but it was still there. I took apart the knife and found that there were two teflon washers on each side of the blade. The light bulb went off and I started experimenting with different washers. For this particular knife (a custom flipper) I found that one phosphor bronze washer and one small teflon washer on each side of the blade (the teflon washer touching the blade) fixed the blade play and provided smooth action. I decided to test out some other knives and found that for all those I tested knife centering and blade play issues could be improved by adding an extra washer on one side, or adding an extra washer on both sides, etc. I think there's a limit to what can be done, but there's definitely some wiggle room.
So where's a good source for teflon and phosphor bronze washers? It would be awesome to have varying sizes and thicknesses for knife tweaking.
